We were so busy rock climbing we didn't notice we had something watching us. We made it to the edge of a long cliff face when we we were confronted with a massive bear.
The massive beast plodded to within four feet of of us and we stood very still. I gazed into his cold, black eyes. I panicked as my mind replayed all I had read. “Stay calm and talk quietly to the bear as you slowly back away,” the books had said. The problem was that we are on top of a cliff with very few options. The bear was blocking our only possible exit.

The Bear stood staring at both of us for nearly a full minute. He wouldn’t back away, and I couldn’t leave as our backs were against a cliff. I played through every scenario I could think of to get away, but there just weren’t any that would work. I became more and more certain with each passing second that it was time for us to meet my maker, but I figured I could save Sandra.

We started slowly walking along the cliff edge, hoping to find a way down or off this cliff, running would just make things worse. As we walked slowly east, I noticed a possible solution, but we really have to be careful. There was a boulder stuck between two cliff faces in a very precarious manner. If we could both make it across that boulder, the bear's weight would surely cause the boulder to drop, along with the bear... Hopefully.
