good question.

as you see the small creature on the floor walking surrounding the tree like creature. actually the tree is like their home. and they hibernate inside the coating(looks like a ball hanging on branch) during winter because they will get warm inside.  inside the coating has a warm liquid. that keep them warm.
as the ball will get bigger and then will break. n the creature will fall on the ground. and freely roaming again.

the idea as you mentioned above, it is also sounds cool. it's really depend on the audience what they thought about the design.
