Description Animal group: Arthropod
Age: 380 million years ago
Period: Devonian
Range: Worldwide
Length: 6 cm.
Diet: Detritus
Number in park: 13 adults
Danger level: Harmless.

The very first invertebrate to be cloned by E.I. The staff at the park quickly realized that using live eggs from modern arthropods when cloning phacops would save both time and money, instead of creating artificial ones. Over 100 individuals were cloned, and when they hatched the nauplius would swin just below the surface, filtering algaes. But just as with many arthropods live today, the mortality rate among the nauplius were huge during the first week, leaving only a few survivors. As they matured the phacops started to move closer to the bottom and finally settled there once they reached adulthood. The adults move about and constantly searches trough the bottom material in search of food. They have excellent eyesight and quickly react when being fed or threatened. The phacops now spawn frequently in their tank, and all growth stages can be found.

TRIVIA
When a phacops feel threatened, it will curl up into a tight ball to protect itself. This instinct makes it very easy for the staff to move the animals during cleaning, as they remain perfectly still for minutes before uncurling themselves.
