Description
Appearance:
Odium is an slim, anthropomorphic, bipedal, grey wolf with a white underside and dark-gray tips on both his ears and long, spiky tail. He also has spiky hair on both the top and sides of his head and turquoise eyes with black, vertical slit pupils and white highlights, as well as pink skin on the inside of his ears. He has a medium-sized snout and black nose, as well as white, sharp, canine teeth and claws. He's also taller than the Mane Six, but shorter than Discord.
His clothing consists of a dark-brown, long-sleeved, vigilante jacket with a dark-gray, golden-buckled strap, and a dark-blue, white and black arrow cross symbol on each side and elbow. He also wears light-brown shorts held by a dark-gray, golden-buckled belt and has a turquoise feather on the front of each pant-leg. He also has a dark-blue stripe around the bottom end of his jacket, sleeves, and pant-legs. He also wears no socks or shoes.
He also carries a long, light-brown, magic-proof, wooden staff with three small, bent branches on the top end and white bandages wrapped around the middle of it, on his back.
Personality:
Odium is a rather complex individual with a strong sense of justice and purpose, albeit in a usually overzealous and dogmatic manner. He believes in tirelessly standing up for those who have been wronged or can’t stand up for themselves. Not necessarily because it’s the right thing to do nor for selfish reasons, but somewhat because no one else is doing it.
During his youth, Odium was a relatively naïve, curious, and somewhat immature and shy, yet somewhat idealistic, innocent, and caring child who had to face a lot of pain and turmoil from both him and his family’s current living standards at the time. He also had a hard time discovering his own purpose in life.
But as he grew older, he became more brave, courageous, determined, and willing to help those in need. He was also able to find out what his true purpose in life was: Giving integrity and safety for those that need it the most and punishing those who don’t deserve it, especially when there’s no one else to do it. When others are capable of helping, he usually moves on and let’s them do it if needed.
However, he did mostly develop a savior-complex that made him think that his only purpose in life was to help others who need it and punish those who deserve it. This inadvertently gave him a morally black-and-white view on life. He’s also very judgmental, critical, and intolerant towards both himself and others when he and his family’s moral values are threatened or when something extremely immoral has been done.
Odium can also be somewhat headstrong, stubborn, and self-righteous when it comes to his values. He refuses to accept others’ views on morality and can be stuck in his old ways. But when eventually proven wrong or given enough proof, he can be very conflicted and self-conscious.
Although seemingly serious on the outside, he usually tends to wear his heart on his sleeve. He can be very loud and boisterous when extremely happy or angry, but his sadness is very silent and somewhat tearful. He can be skittish and jumpy when he’s actually scared or surprised and snarky and blunt when irritated or annoyed. Though this is mostly a mask to hide his own problems so as to not hurt others or be selfish towards their own problems.
Due to being usually isolated, introverted, and reserved, he can be very gullible, and overly-trusting towards those who are close to him or those who need his help. This makes his loved ones and those in need easy to manipulate and trick him, but untrusting towards his enemies, giving him a very poor judgement of character. Despite this, he’s not outright slow-witted or stupid and does have a intuitive and moderately intelligent mind.
Odium’s also usually self-reliant and individualistic. While he doesn’t mind having friends around to help him when he needs to, he does prefer to handle things by himself when there's no one else to do it and isn’t much of a leader or follower.
In spite of his flaws, Odium can be very selfless, compassionate, and honest. He always puts others before himself and shows very little regard for his own well-being compared to others’. He’s also capable of extreme self-reflection and remorse when he realizes that he’s extremely in the wrong. He hates excuses from either himself or others when it comes to misdeeds. Also, while he does hate his enemies, he’s very considerate and thoughtful towards those they personally care about. He’s also very merciful and hesitant whenever they’re afraid of him and refuses to kill them. He’s also willing to save them while still going against them.
Odium is also mature enough to know that redemption takes time and effort and can’t be given instantly or scot-free, regardless of the crime. He also knows that not everything can be solved by just friendship or singing, especially not easily. He also likes to write when he’s alone and travel the world by himself, as well as live in the woods. Despite being mostly courageous and willing to sacrifice himself for others, he is afraid of fire, losing loved ones, and being a bad person. Despite wanting to help others, he does have a bit of a mischievous side, but only when it comes to doing harmless pranks that don’t harm anyone.
Underneath that somewhat serious, selfless, and courageous front is a deeply traumatized, confused, and self-hating figure who is disillusioned about the world around him, but doesn’t know where to go or who to believe. While he does genuinely love to help others with their problems when needed, he has his own secret problems that he needs help with, but doesn’t want to due to fear of coming off as selfish or heartless towards others’ problems at the moment and wants to repress it so as to avoid self-pity as well as give himself what he deserves for his actions.
After being punished and atoning for his actions, Odium began to start a new life. While he’s still not completely trusting and is still critical and temperamental, mostly towards himself in a self-hating and self-destructive manner, he does become more approachable, sympathetic, and somewhat dorky. He’s still introverted, indignant, and snarky, but after gaining therapy for his own problems, he becomes a mostly better person and has a much healthier lifestyle.
Backstory:
Many years before the series started, Odium was a young, well-meaning, and helpful pup who was born into an honorable family. They've taught him many different lessons to learn in life in order to be good towards others, but the biggest lesson he learned was that whenever he sees injustice of any kind happening, he should tackle it head on in order to make sure that others don't suffer.
This made sense as his family moved to and lived in a very disreputable town on the other side of the planet named Rogue Town, where injustice and hardships usually happens on a daily basis due to overpopulation, poverty, and competition for years before he was born. This made Odium's family, who are some of the only ones trying to do something about it, create and uphold to a moral code against injustice in order to make sure that life becomes better for others, whether inside or outside their new and current damaged society.
Overtime, in Odium's life, he would follow this code for his family and others in order to make life better out of honor and integrity. He's done things like giving an orphan back some bread after it was stolen from him by hooligans before giving them some bread of his own, told off a cruel and abusive family for yelling and kicking out their child, etc. all in the name of honor and integrity. However, this caused him to be so obsessed, single-minded, and blinded by his family's philosophy to the point of downright hatred, confrontation, judgement, self-righteousness and bitterness towards injustice of any kind, as well as towards those who violate said moral code.
After Odium became old enough to survive on his own, he left his disreputable town and waved goodbye to his honorable and loving family before heading through a cold and barren forest that leads outside of the town named the Black Tree Forest. Freezing from the chilling air without any warm clothes to put on, Odium needed someplace to warm up for a while. Suddenly, his ears twitched as he heard a someone calling out to him. Out of curiosity, he decided to quickly follow it up to a large, rocky cave that housed an old and mysterious seer.
The seer took him in and gave him some warmer clothes to put on. The seer then insisted that he'd stay with her for more warmth and better shelter from the cold, which Odium hesitantly agrees since he's got nowhere else to go. After a few days have passed, Odium was about to leave, until the seer stops him and tells him that she and others need help. This intrigues Odium with both curiosity and a bit of skepticism, but she assured him that it's truly for the good of others. Seeing this as a necessity to help others out and live up to his family's high moral legacy, Odium listens to what she has to say.
The seer then shows Odium, through her crystal ball, all of the Mane Six, Starlight, and Discord's future wrongdoings and faults; the disasters they're responsible for, the crimes they questionably committed, and even how they've treated each other and others like Spike at times throughout the series while also subverting the good that they've done. She also says that they're manipulative, careless, heartless, and vindictive beings who use their so-called "good-nature" to escape their faults and even excuse them. They will also kill and/or hurt anyone who goes up against them.
This angers Odium while the seer tells him that he's the only one who can stop them. Odium asks why him and not anyone else, but the seer says that he's the most selfless and bravest creature that she's seen who has the most potential and that he has to do it in if he truly wants to do the right thing and live up to his family's moral identity and legacy. Odium hesitantly accepts and the seer decides to help train and prepare him until he's truly ready to face the Mane Six, but also tells him to watch the visions over and over again in order to have a great focus needed for his mission.
After years of training, planning, and studying the Mane Six, Starlight, and Discord while being told to watch the visions over and over again, causing his hatred and determination against the Mane Six and their friends to slowly grow overtime, the seer finally said that Odium is ready and gave him one of her ancient weapons before painfully dying of old age and turning to dust right in front of him. This traumatized Odium greatly before he headed out on his journey against the Mane Six and the others.
Abilities:
Unlike other villains in the series, who use either magic or technology to achieve their goal(s), Odium has no special abilities or equipment, except for the anti-magic staff that was given to him by the mysterious seer before she died of old age right in front of him. Instead, he relies on his physical prowess and intellect to help him. Due to his years of intensive and vigorous training, planning, and studying with the old seer for about as long as the Mane Six's history together, he's able to fight at least on par with them and knows their strengths, weaknesses, and especially pet peeves.
- Enhanced Condition: Despite his lack of raw power and average physical strength, especially in his arms, Odium’s physical prowess and fighting skills make him a dangerous and highly skilled opponent. The prowess and skill of his normal species either range from average to above-average. Thanks to years of Gabriella's intense, regular, rigorous training, his abilities are beyond that of his normal species in terms of skill and prowess. In spite of getting bruises, scratches, and a bit of actual blood, as well as almost passing out for a bit, he’s able to survive a lot of punishment like being blasted and falling into a tree, or tanking the hard hits of a giant rock monster. In terms of speed and reflexes, he’s able to block a number of magic blasts at quick succession and dodge a blast from Pinkie Pie's Party Cannon in close-quarters combat. Despite his average physical strength, his kicks are more effective than his punches as he’s able to send a flying kick on Starlight Glimmer to the face, launching her to a decent distance. He's able to do backhand springs, flips, etc.
- Enhanced Senses: Thanks to his species' lupine physiology, he's able to sense things and people using his nose and ears, though his ears seem to be more effective than his nose.
- Martial Arts: Odium is basically one of the, if not the, most skilled combatants that the Mane Six and their friends have faced in terms of physical combat and fighting skills/prowess. His skills are honed to such a degree that he’s able to fight on par with and even slightly overpower powerful magic users like Twilight, Starlight, and (when he’s holding back) even Discord, despite him still being stronger than Odium when he’s not.
- Bo-Staff Proficiency: A magic-proof bo-staff given to him by Gabriella. This is Odium’s main weapon. The composition of the staff itself is able to block and negate most, if not all, magical techniques and attacks. It can also land a considerable hit on most opponents if used well. Despite this, it isn’t fireproof or indestructible. Odium is very skilled and versatile at wielding it, able to spin it at great speed, pull-vault himself in the air, and do a number of techniques, blocks, and attacks with it. This indicates that Gabriella taught him the art of bojutsu, along with his normal combat techniques for years.
- Adaptation, Strategy, and Perception: Despite his usually average intellect in terms of normal activities, Odium is able to use his wits, study of his opponents' strengths, weaknesses, and pet peeves, and use of the environment to his advantage. Despite that, he can’t predict everything and can still get caught off-guard when distracted or fatigue.
- Sharp Claws and Teeth: While they were much duller, rounder, and softer during his youth, as he grew older, his claws and teeth became sharper, harder, and more jagged. Despite loving to eat vegetarian food, he’s still able to give a powerful bite and cut from them in combat or other situations that require them.
Weaknesses:
- He can sometimes let his burning hatred and rage for any injustices get in the way of his focus and composure, causing him to act without thinking at times.
- Even though he can hold his own in a fight, he can be easily defeated by magic users, especially without the magic-proof staff.
- Due to his high sense of honor, and high moral standards, Odium can be very stubborn when it comes to his moral code and unwillingness to hurt or kill others and things who aren't his targets, even when he's in blind hatred and rage. This leaves him vulnerable to their attacks. He also has a strong sense of mercy, even towards said targets.
- He has a few fears, such as fire, losing a loved one, and being a bad person.
- In spite of his many years of training, Odium can still be affected by the Plateau Effect. This can either cause his effectiveness to decrease overtime and/or cause him to reach the peak of his physical limits and never improve beyond that.
- Stagnation can cause his abilities to be less powerful and effective overtime until he’s reverted back to his average prowess. Continuous training and exercise are the only ways to bring it back, but it takes a very long and slow process, which is about months or years to be at his full potential again.
- Despite Odium being able to hold his own in a fight and his usually arrogant attitude, he does know when he's outmatched or outnumbered and knows when to retreat in order to fight another day.
- The staff he wields may be magic-proof, but not fire-proof, at least against normal fires, though. It’s also not indestructible either.
- Odium is vulnerable to mind-control and having his mind broken if given enough stress to cause the latter. Due to watching others have their minds broken or quake in fear at the hooves of the Mane Six, he eventually thinks that they're going to do the same thing to him, causing him to have a panic attack and relapse back into hating them, though instead of trying to hurt them again, he tries to kill them before his realization.
- Despite his intelligence, he can be very gullible and naïve towards those who need his help, yet distrustful towards those he views as in the wrong.
- Due to Odium having average strength and lacking in raw power, along with not having any magical or technological abilities, he's able to be taken down very easily by those with more power by comparison.
- Odium's weakest point on his body is his neck. If his opponents grab tightly onto his knock with enough strength, it will stop his blood from going to his brain, causing him to be put to sleep or eventual die if held long enough.
- His senses are vulnerable to Sensory Overload, which can overload the senses to extremely painful results. They may be filled by pain if Odium is injured. Also, his senses aren’t immune to magic and can be blocked or dulled by pain and other sources like plugs.
- Despite his incredible years of martial arts and bojutsu, he doesn't know how to use any other weapon besides using a bo-staff and takes years to learn how to do that properly.
- Ironically, his body temperature is slightly weaker than his normal wolf species.
- Even with his magic-proof bo-staff, he himself is still vulnerable to spells like telekinesis, teleportation, telepathy, etc.
