Canterlot is a wondrous place where art, magic, and knowledge evolves under its culture. However, deep in the roots of high society lies systemic prejudice against any pony that isn't a unicorn. While both of Octavia's parents were both unicorns, she was born an earth pony. This didn't stop them, however, in pushing Octavia towards a higher class when she received her cutie mark. There was no celebration when she got it, no cute-ceañera to speak of. That was the moment that Octavia's childhood fun was severely limited. Her father pushed her to aim towards new heights, almost unrealistically so, while her mother teaches her to be more lady-like in front of company. While her parents may have high hopes for their earth pony daughter, there are surely other ponies that will look down on her based on whether she has a horn or not.
