love the sharp lines.. the simplicity is so appealing.. I am always so compelled to fill every space - it's nice to see some open space for a change

thank you very much i saw you joined the zentangled group so im sure our paths will cross again in the future my drawings are more abstract than zentangled and i admit to not even knowing what zentangle was until a few months ago. its a pretty cool way of going about drawing so maybe i can learn something from it

I like how the patterns, colors assualt your senses in the zentangles, doodles. Even more when they somehow pull together to slap you with a concept or thought. I think you hit it.

Yeah, I've been too tired after training to do anything, and I've only had one day weekends for a couple of months. I finally got a full weekend right now. I received my first two cases on Monday and closed one on Friday. I have to clse my next one by this coming up Friday, and then, I'll have one last week in Midland. Afterwards, I'll be out of training and on my own. We are also preparing to move. Guess what silly me did! Give up? I packed all of my art supplies and moved them to storage. Eeeeekkkk!!!! I've been in serious Sharpie withdrawal. It's not like I've had time with all of the homework and stuff the last few weeks. :/ I sure have missed talking at ya. ~ ~

it sure sounds like everything at your work is going well are you looking forward to moving ? i never want to move again !! i dont know how you will get by with no art supplies at hand you need them to keep the stress level in check !! you'll have to turn yourself into a pen/legel pad doodler until you get everything unpacked huh

this is so cool.. it's amazing to me how awesome your pieces look without shading! can't remember if you said - do you clean yours up with photoshop?? If so I would love to see how they look BEFORE photoshop.

thanks the only thing i do in photoshop is bring up the saturation to make my black a little blacker. they pretty much look the same in real life this one is pretty similar to my mother and child drawing thats on my front page

cajunhillbilly In reply to hesterkin [2011-04-14 02:01:45 +0000 UTC]

I don't have photoshop but i have an iphoto program on my imac that I use that saturation button on.. I do think it makes the black look.. uh.. "sharper" if that's the right word..I have seen some line drawings like ours where they use the program to do the shading - it's really cool looking..

ive had ps7 since it came out and i still know nothing about it. now my brother can do all kinds of fancy stuff with it but he isnt into art that much . i would be lost trying to do shading

I am still learning to shade - but I look at real life objects seeing where the light and shadows fall - it helps to know where to shade in my work.. I stilll haven't mastered shading with lines instead of my pencil and blending stump. Btw - been working on our collab for over a week. Working on the shading now - agonizing is more like it. I LOVE collabs but I def feel more pressure for it to be just right..that and we had a lot of baseball and softball going on.

im sure the collab is gonna rock after seeing what you did with the "machine" i have no doubts about this one hows the visit going ? we live right across from a soccer field and the games are on !! cant even park in front of my own house when i come home. baseball fields right next to the soccer field so on weekends theres always a ton of activity to follow if i have time. you know i could never figure out a "stump" so i just stare at its evilness

oooohhhh i thought it was one of those chinese finger torture thingies i seriously have never used either one of these dastardly tools !!! i have never been instructed to their proper use......shows you how much i know huh i do have a set of colored pencils that have these in there but they are just a reminder to what i have never been taught. i should have took art class in high school more seriously

honestly Dad, I haven't had formal training either.. lol I just heard ppl talking about them and decided to try it.. actually I tried qtips first.. but my perfectionist mentality (that only applies to my art lol) forced me to try the stumps and tortillions b/c I wanted the shading more precise. I love them.. in FACT - I went to the crack shop (aka Hobby Lobby) yesterday and picked out a pack of stumps in various sizes.. can't wait to try them.. I also got a clearance bristol vellum pad, this neat doodad to erase precise lines, new pack of watercolor pencils, new sharpie pens, oooh and a new fold up organizer to keep all my pens.. Guess I will be playing with my new toys today

I never asked you what kind of pens you use, but for large spots I LOVE LOVE LOVE my sharpie pens (not markers).. I like them as much (if not more) than my microns.. although I do use my microns for the tiny spaces. If they would offer the sharpie pens in the fine nibs like micron I wouldn't buy anything else..well.. that's a lie.. I am a bit of a drawing pen hoarder LOL.. I really don't care for fabercastle pitt pens though.. I have heard of ppl using ballpoint pens - have you ever tried that?

hesterkin In reply to cajunhillbilly [2011-04-17 17:53:47 +0000 UTC]

well the next time im getting my fix i'll have to check them out and maybe buy some. sounds like you picked up some cool supplies i just love the bristol smooth drawing pads. for pens i have a bunch of sharpies for colored stuff but for the black ink i use the very pens that YOU dont seem to care for !! i like the pitts for large black since they have the really nice brush tipped one. i use the fine tip pitt on almost everything else. my second fav is the microns. at the hobby lobby here i dont think they sell alot of microns because when ever i buy them the seemed to be rather dry and dont last very long, and we cant have that !! i love to get every last drop of ink out of them before i throw em out. i sent a email to a local gallery here in town with a few drawings attached to see if i might attract some interest. they seem to be more mainstream and i didnt really notice anything along the lines of what i do but maybe thats because im so freakin unique but if i dont hear back then im gonna send some out to the lincoln area where there are alot more people and several more galleries. i know a few folks up there and they can set me up with who i need to be talking to. and i have tryed the regular ball points with pretty good success the only thing i dont like about them is the tips seem to clog up alot and i have to scribble to get the ink flowing again. i use them when im in a pinch though

cajunhillbilly In reply to hesterkin [2011-04-18 01:13:00 +0000 UTC]

well maybe the fabercastle is worth a second try if you like them Maybe I was just using the wrong tip.. I have a round nip one that I used for coloring in large areas and it ran out.. but perhaps it was clogged or whatever when I was trying to draw on something that was not marker friendly.. I will force myself to shop and buy some more to try.. you know - take one for the team and all :-D I am sure your work would draw interest!! I would like to find some places in the French Quarter in New Orleans to submit my work.. that area gets a TON of traffic..

my sister is down in that area somewhere. she was always asking me if she could take some to a studio where she frequents. being my sister i just blow her off the pitts i think are just perfect for the bristol smooth. if i use pitts on standard printer paper i dont like the results near as much. i use card stock alot too. that seems to be the middle ground as far as pens go. sharpies work good on card stock as do the pitts. the sharpies color really nice on card stock i find. alot of my older colored pieces were all done with sharpies. i went to the pitts about 2 yrs ago. like you im always trying to work with different pens and paper combos. when i buy the pitts i buy the 4 pack since their cheaper that way and i normally use just the bold tip and the fine tip so when they run dry i yank the tips out and push them into the superfine and medium pen barrels. the tips pull right out and fit right in the other ones. its like a brand new pen again for a few more drawings anyway thats sound like the right idea to get your work out there. im just gonna find the galleries using internet web search and fire off an email to them. if they turn me down no big deal, there are other places out there. you only need to find one or two places willing to show them. preferrably local but if we must venture out so be it

its going on for a couple of months so maybe you might find some time your new pieces are really quite good i wish you luck on doing one everyday, thats gotta be tough i probably average one a day but if i had to as a requirement , id get myself all stressed out and then probably freak out and end up with some wicked drawing block !! but thats just me

Jordyn-Marie In reply to hesterkin [2011-04-13 04:21:48 +0000 UTC]

Okay, I'll try!

Thank you! It actually took me a couple years to start a 365 project. And this is after my failed attempts at one a week projects.. haha. I dont stress too much. Every once in a while I miss a day so I make it up and do two in one day.. ;] And thats one reason I like themes. I have nine days to plan the next one, and while working with a theme I usually dont get drawing block. I also keep random sketches for ideas.. I plan to start using a journal for that. AND I have some of Johanna Basford's pictures (google her) on my iPod for inspiration when I'm stuck. That was actually the theme for my week that ends today.. Was Johanna's work. I like it so far, it's fun to experiment with different techniques =]

Haha, sorry. I really didn't mean for that to turn out so long.

Merpa , the founder of the club will set you up with a partner if you need one and if she cant then i will volunteer im not familiar with johannas work so i'll look her up i really enjoy the results of your project so far and i'll be sure to keep an eye out for your new ones. in that collab thing you might have to be a member but thats painless and very easy. i pretty much know most of the folks over there and they are all really cool people we all have pretty similar styles
