How to make a Hetalia OC for dummies PART 1

Hello everyone!
I have been a Hetalia fan for a looong time, and since then I came across a big amount of, to be honest, really bad OCs of people who seem to forget that real countries are involved in their beloved series ; and making an OC to it is like walking in a minefield - you have to be very, very careful, because otherwise it goes BOOM. You know what I mean, people can be easily offended by your OC, so careful is the keyword.
That's why I want to help you out a bit, even if I'm not perfect myself and we all make our mistakes sometimes. Let's just start now.

The country

As Hetalia has to do with personified countries, you also have to choose one. There are over 100 nations Himaruya hasn't even thought of turning them into a character yet, so there are lots of countries to choose from. Take a look at a world map, you will see lots of awesomesauce countries with fascinating culture and history. You can even choose from countries that don't exist anymore. Isn't this great? But it would be best if you'd choose a country you have a personal connection to - maybe you have friends who live there, or it is your parents origin or anything like this - because it isn't just about history, a country has also people who live in it and as Hetalia plays a lot with stereotypes, it would be great to know about them. You could simply ask Google, but isn't it more fun talking to real people about things like this?

We need a proper example, so I'll throw a dart at my beloved map and go with the country that it lands on.

The name

Which is the next problem and basically one of the biggest opportunities to make mistakes.
Even if you love Japan and Hetalia is a japanese thing, you shouldn't name your *a country that isn't japan*-OC Sakura Kobayashi or something like that. You better go and look up some names that are usual in the country you have just chosen. But be careful with the good old name-websites and please keep in mind what your character's age is, you don't want to give a teenage girl the name of an old lady, do you? At this point you could ask someone who comes from the country of your choice - and if you don't know that someone yet, you could do some stalking, ehm, I mean research on Facebook and look up some people who live in your preferred area and are your preferred age. The surname gives you more creative freedom, as you can use every source you want to find it.

Bosnia-Herzegovina is a nation with a big variety of religions and cultures. As our Bosnia is going to be a muslim lady, she will get the beautiful name
