I was listening to a song called Love Vigilantes by Iron and Wine (very good song by the way) and this reminded me so much of it that it's freaky. I will send you the link if you like. This piece is amazing, so vivid and realistic. I love how you drew everything, and I felt like I was actually there. Well done!

Both of they're expressions are brilliantly done - I really feel for both of them. Their poses are great, too.

I guess the only bright side of this pic is that there are still those people who can be a hero ( besides Alfred). To this woman, I'm willing to bet that Arther's like a handsom prince or something. Very good pic.

Thanks for telling me about this, Luce - Actually, that woman is Fem!England, also known as Alice Kirkland or Igiko.

Oh, that's traumatic. Were I come from, there were a lot of jews back then...now, there's only five to six thousand the most. Lots of them fled the country, lots of them died, too...sent to concentration camps. War has torn families apart.

ffff. i love when people draw actual events with hetalia. i mean, i know it is showing what happened, but not in that happy-yay type way because history isn't always like that.

i'm rambling. anyways, this is wonderful.

Actually, if you go to London and walk past the Victoria and Albert museum, you can still see part of the walls are damaged. They left the cracks there after the Blitz to keep the historical memory. Make of that what you will..

Ytterbium1227 [2011-04-08 01:25:30 +0000 UTC]

The Blitz.
England got flattened (headcanon says he was in a hospital in America somewhere... getting fussed over by our favourite Golden Boy), but he was still really damn kickass in WWII. All that winning he did... Yay Britain.
This
It is fabulous. Accurate, emotional, everything. It speaks of the urgency of their situation very well

Yeah! The Battle of Britain...the Nazi's thought it would be as easy as defeating the French, but England kicked them out headfirst.

This is a very well drawn picture that expresses the emotion of the event very well. The people themselves are drawn in great proportion and the picture overall conveys the feeling in such a intelligent manner. I also like both the characters. This also reminds me of the book 1984. Very nice job.

Every time I see a picture from you in my New Deviations thing, I just leave it there. I delete all the others after I look at them, but your art catches the pieces of history - or moments outside of history - so beautifully.

It seems like you're looking for things that haven't been done before... Perhaps I could suggest the Halifax Explosion?

(also, I was the one who asked if I could write something for one of your pictures, and I'm terribly sorry I never followed through. I tried to write something, but it's half written and sketchy and hiding in my writing file, for now. I can't seem to do your image any justice, just yet)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

brokenblumenkind In reply to brokenblumenkind [2011-02-06 05:44:36 +0000 UTC]

Oh, just remembered that you wanted coloured references for pictures... The Halifax Explosion doesn't have any. Though the central image would be an explosion, and Canada... I don't know, you probably prefer a colour reference, even so. So sorry about that! >.< I forgot that you wanted that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hetaliasse In reply to brokenblumenkind [2011-02-06 07:15:03 +0000 UTC]

XD Haha yes that's the problem with pre-WW2 events All but the most significant happenings are in black and white, and any colour references that exist are too few to be of much use :\

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

brokenblumenkind In reply to hetaliasse [2011-02-12 07:34:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's really too bad! There are so many interesting events, too... Like the Christmas Truce of 1914, and a bunch of other events I've already seen people mention on here, and your journal.

But I think it's awesome that you are so into references, and getting it right. 'Cause often it seems that a badly-referenced history picture may as well just be labeled any point in time, or Alternate Universe altogether. ...did that make sense? I'm having trouble putting that sentence right. T:

Oh my god. This piece is absolutely epic. The emotions you conveyed here are amazing, and all the detail you put in is unbelievable.

Hm, this may have been suggested before, but perhaps you could draw the Long March in China during the war between the communists and the KMT?
