If you are expecting this series of pictures to lead up to a display of any splendour that there might be inside El-Aqsa, I am sorry, but they forbade me to take pictures in there, too. Yes, I was allowed in (which I guess means that it is the holiest Islamic place that an infidel like me may enter), but no farther than the entrance hall, not onto the prayer floor. My guide pointed out the spot where King Abdullah I was shot and killed on 20 July 1951; his grandson – who later became King Hussein – was right beside him and was also hit.
