But whatever you call it, it is that roughly rectangular platform, built apparently on Herod's orders, in the northeast Old City. Herod's idea was to increase the area of what was then a Jewish holy site (and until then, actually a "mount"), the home of the Second Temple, which was later destroyed by the Romans as they sought to wipe out all signs of the Jews' presence in Judaea. And also, whatever you call it, it is nowadays a Muslim holy site, the home of the Dome of the Rock and El-Aqsa Mosque.
