Description
In the first half of 2023, I was challenged to design a unique ZX Spectrum game based upon the Star Wars movie The Empire Strikes Back. The idea was to create something that showed more of the movie, more faithfully than either the old Atari arcade game or the more recent - but still retro - games for the 8-bit and 16-bit consoles from Sega and Nintendo.

As with the Dagobah bonus levels, I could possibly extend the background for a 'widescreen effect'... but, given the way I've drawn this background, I wouldn't want to lose any height... The lofty concept of this is that the Luke and Vader sprites themselves would effectively be silhouette, over a simply background on which the attributes are 'animated' to give the impression of shifting light, smoke, etc. Their lightsabers would be the only other areas of colour, animated as separate sprites.
