Coldshadow
Maddy Franklin was a pioneer in the field of cryogenetics (a subfield of cryogenics which focuses on the effects of extreme cold on genetics) and enjoyed fame within the scientific community and donations towards furthering her research. She became accustomed to a lavish lifestyle and began syphoning funds from her research, investing in sub-standard safety equipment in her lab. One night while drunk she had a revelation as how light, or the lack thereof, effects temperature and would avoid some issues she had with her research. Impatient for the results of her theory, she tested herself and when the safety equipment failed and the lab literally froze, she was changed on a genetic level. She found could manipulate cold using shadow but that under light the power faded.
The accident proved costly, as she had foregone the normal insurance required and now had no means to support herself. Her career as a scientist was ruined and her failure became a cautionary tale. She decided to turn to crime, calling herself Coldshadow and becoming a bit of a cat burglar who could crack safes by freezing them and then shattering the mechanisms. Her career as a villain took off and soon she found she was easily able to support the lifestyle she was once accustomed to. As the money came in, she invested in a pair of bracelets that essentially reflected light and magnified shadow, allowing her to use her powers in all but the brightest areas.
Maddy hasn’t encountered many problems in her new career but has used the money and free time to study martial arts and make contacts in the criminal world, particularly with fences. Many heroes have tried to stop her, but she is always one step ahead. The only heroin that has posed a problem to her and ruined her theft of some artwork from Paris Museum is Sunrise, a hero able to emit light and use ambient light to enhance her muscle mass. Maddy now plots her revenge, and an encounter is sure to take place soon!
