I know you would Richard. I also love trees, but with our climate, it isn't easy to grow them here. You have to learn to live without them. I just love when I go to the Mainland and get to see trees there

I felt that way out west in the High Desert. But then, out there are found the strangest trees of all, the Mighty Joshuas.

Ooh thank you for the photos, all very interesting and so alien to me. I have heard of Joshua trees, but never seen any before.Β
In Shetland there are a few trees that grow, but all have been planted within the last 100-150 years I would think. There are none which grow wild, if that makes sense. The types that survive here are, Willow, Rowan, Sycamore, Elder and Birch. That's about it really. Oh sorry forgot Douglas Fir and Larch.Β
Without shelter, any tree we should try to plant here often has a hard time surviving the wind. So it's a vicious circle really. Sigh.....
