Such an old painting but beautiful nonetheless. I think Brom is my favorite character, such a sad backstory DX Did you ever get around to reading the books?Β

Well, Brom's original dragon was named Saphira.
It's why he mentioned the name when Eragon came to talk to him in the books.

I think that Saphira's voice and Jeremy Irons playing Brom is probably the best parts. That and I like how they did Eragon's Arya's and Saphira's armor in the battle.
But other than that I am the one almost yelling "The book is better" everytime I watch it.
But I like how you drewΒ Saphira.

I kinda like Movie Brom better. Just felt, so much more... badass.
I mean, the part where he's setting the barn on fire in the movie.
"Funeral fit for a king."

True. I also liked it that the Movie Brom was a bit more snide than book Brom.

That is not an accurate representation of Brom....Read the books and will find out what he looks like, and why is the jem of broms sword blue Za'roc was red, unless this was before the fall of the riders or sometime before his dragon died which means all is forgiven.

SIERRA-116 In reply to Jasperthekid [2016-02-18 23:22:20 +0000 UTC]
Since Brom's original Dragon was named Saphira (and we can guess that she was probably blue as well), then it's likely that that is Brom's sword before the Fall of the Riders.

As someone who read the books and loves them I do like the composition and tone of this piece but I would note bat wings do make more sense for a reason with dragons for lift purposes. Membrane can run along the body creating a solid singular plane to support their weight like a bat or terasaurs(not sure on spelling.) also the spines along their back are literal spines that could cause serious injuries if landed upon. I do love your little details and the hands/paws are well formed. Also Saphira looks a tad masculine with the hard triangular eye. Remember, predator, eyes forward.

Yeah, I agree. Dragons are reptilian, so I've always thought that dragons with feathers and fur don't make too much sense. Sure, you don't see reptiles flying around on bat wings in real life, but it seems like bat wings match dragons better than feathers.

I think that was what annoyed me about how they portrayed Saphire in that God awful movie... made her look like a cross between a dragon and a bird, when they mention membrane wings, not feathers. Awesome drawing otherwise XD

This looks amazing. I adore the brilliant dark blue on the dragon, and Brom looks incredible. I read the book and I loved it. I was super excited when I heard there was going to be a movie. Went to see it in theaters, and I loved it. The differences between book and movie don't really bother me all that much. If you don't compare the two, the movie is amazing.

Watching Eragon the movie, was like watching Aeon Flux the movie,
The original stuff(Books/Tvseries) > Movies
I can't say that for all stuff, Reading the True blood series (Sookie Housestack Novels) is not as good as watching the HBO series. n___n

The movie was, indeed horrible. It was like the writers were drunk or half dead as they wrote it. The books, on the other hand, are ripe with interesting scenes and plot twists. The only complaint I had about the books was the author kind of ripped the ending off of LOtR. -_-

he was a young writer with a lot of fantastic writing to influence his own. I think that for his first series and with his experience they are excellent books. True he did a little ripping off and had some good references that may be good or may not. But we all have to agree that first book, aged 18 when the first came out, and with how difficult fiction writing (being original) can be he did a splendid job.

I beg you... read the book. You really can't say anything until you do. You would not understand the sheer beauty and intelligence the dragons in the books have. You have NO idea what you are missing. Judging by your artwork, it would be your favorite book series. Ever.

Wow not many people think of Brom's dragon from the story its a realy nice touch since most people ignore the fact Saphira's name was the same as Eragons 'Saphira'.

Since this page seems to be deviating from the picture at hand... I might as well join in. (cool depiction BTW, this is actually one of my favorite interpretations)
[rant begins here]As for the movie. I watched it again recently - just to make sure I had a good understanding of exactly what went wrong. What went wrong was the writing. Dreadful, horrible, lazy, disgusting writing. It's possibly one of the worst book adaptations of all time, and a truly awful movie all on its own.
It makes me sad that the biggest complaints people have are the physical appearance of the characters (who's blond and who has a beard and whether Saphira has feathers ect.) - something I really couldn't give a rat's ass about in most cases. It's depressing because there were so many more important problems with the movie as an adaptation.
An adaptation should NOT be exactly - page for page - like the book, and Eragon is not a particularly easy book to adapt considering the screen time one would require for a Dragon, and loads of other factors. However, it should get the idea of each character right. It should get the basic premise and plot right, and for God's sake, it shouldn't water down the characters to the point where we're at the bottom of the barrel character-wise.
The direction was clearly dreadful as well since very few of the actors seemed able to express human emotions.[end rant]
lol I could rant a lot longer, the list of reasons this movie sucks on it's own - AND ruins the book is rather long. Perhaps I should learn to write so I can make an organized analysis and explain exactly why this movie was such a massive betrayal - regardless of how "good" the book was. Of course the book isn't a masterpiece, but it could make a hell of a movie if done right.
