I had forgotten about this one, having made it, flattened it, and gone immediately off to do other things. But I discovered it when I went to blot some newly dyed paper, and decided to scan and upload for all of you to see.I decided to have some fun with abnormal media and see how I felt about it. This little image ( 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 inch) was made with charcoal ink, rust, white paint, white charoal, and just a tiny little bit of green acrylic ink for the cat's eyes. Oh yeah, and an ink pen.

So, it's late at night, I'm browsing through the random results that searching for "Cat Dragon" comes up with on DA while trying to work up the exhaustion required to actually sleep... when I come across this picture. And suddenly nothing makes sense. I keep active records of my dreams and I have for a while now. In late 2007, I began to keep electronic record of my dreams. Dated Sept. 27th 2007 is this entry:
Strange, large bird-like creature sitting atop a hill, tears trailing through his face feathers. I got the feeling that heβd lost someone close to him. Heβs staring out over this ruined, dusty city. Like heβs saying goodbye. After a while he seems to gather himself like heβs going to take off and just then he feels a touch of something on his neck. There is a young girl there and I think she was who he thought he lost. He dips low for her and she wraps her arms around his neck, hugging him close through all these fluffy feathers on his neck. He brings his wings up to hug back, clacking his 'beak'.
So... thank you for the surreal moment of practically seeing something I dreamed in a place I've just discovered. Very strange

The Dragon looks a bit like a Dragon Llama... You really do love to
draw with rust, don't you? That's so creative, and I love the highlighting;
I'm guessing there's a storm somewhere in the drawing, eh?

See, the most impressive thing about your work isn't that they're antromorphs in tasteful situations and imaginative settings that draw a viewer deep within... Okay, so that is pretty impressive, but when one finds out you make your own materials, like a master artisian from the renaissance, one such as myself becomes even more impressed.

A scared, drab cat (except for the eyes) outside a ruined city can only be complemented by being under the wing of such a regal being as this.
I love how the rust-lighting works up against the gray/white colors, and how both the elegant dragon, the cat, and the environment are all gray/white.

Your control of charcoal is beautiful. That's one medium I never had the patience to master, I hated the mess, the wildness of it, and the fact that I had to spray workable fixatif on it 2million times.

I didn't use any stick charcoal with this one :3 I ground up the charcoal and mixed it with water to make a very coarse ink. With a very fine brush, you can get a lot of detail and control without losing the texture and quality of drawn charcoal.

I really think without the shadows of the skyscrapers in the background, the picture would only be half as gloomy. They add a sense of past destruction and near apocalypse.
