I love this it is very nicely done. I'm very envious of your talent.
On chat boards and role playing forums some refer to hermaphrodites as Herms, or Hirs. Hopes that tidbit of info helps.

This is the first faviourite of your art in over a year.
I don't know what kept me from faving your deviations, but this one just struck me as both very motherly and very sad. I guess the reason for that could be that someone I know and is very dear to me recently had a stillbirth.
This picture stirrs very much in me, much more than I can say with a few lines. If I had time I would have liked to ask you if I could colour it. Would you kindly give me permission, just in case?
I hope we will see more art as deep as this.
Thank you so much for sharing this.

I never thought about that, but now that you point it out, a gender-ambiguous pronoun that does not reduce a person to a thing would really come in handy at times. But reading through the comments I get the impression that most romance languages do not have one, while languages of different origin often do.
Anyway, great picture. Lovely concept. To me, the face is really what makes the picture. It is hard to place as either gender, but the expression is wonderful.

Grammatically speaking, I think it's okay to use "they" in place of "he" or "she." The sentence might have to be restructured slightly.

restlesscourage In reply to bassikbrian [2007-10-21 04:27:20 +0000 UTC]
Actually, technically speaking, that's not allowed . . . "they" is plural, whereas "he" and "she" are singular. It's in popular use as a replacement pronoun, but technically it's not grammatically correct.

there is actually a term for herms. "shi" (pronounced shay) instead of he or she, and hir (pronounced heer) instead of her or him. great pic, btw, i lurve it

There really isn't more to say than what has already been said, but this is beautiful, I only wish that DA had a filter system like FA instead of the full blown until 18 can't see crap system... So that others that are under 18 can see a rarely found image of this kind of beauty

You could just pirate the Finnish word for the gender neuter word. The English language is the ultimate pirate language. We already borrow from several Romance languages and, by extension, Latin, Germanic and just about anything else it's speakers darn well please. Don't get me started on language usage, I was an English tutor for four years.
People who speak English as a second language speak it more fluently than 90% of Americans.
Btw: Well done on the drawing.

The only one I know is shemale. (haven't a clue how your ment to spell it) Though it's normally used in more comical situations so probably doesn't suit this picture. :/

remember gender is an ambiguous line. Each of us slides left and right on it all the time. your not really male or female your some combination of both. because it is way to much of a gray line being male or female means something different to all of us. I really like this picture. very well done. the horn makes an impression with the roundness of it of a halo in a very vague sort of way. Was that intentional? I am curious as to why you chose the fabaric for a background? I have noticed when choosing something to represent life or the creation of it many very old artists choose a pregnant look to a creature. I wonder if you thaught of this and if you chose the skinny animorph then why? I always like the times artists choose to represent a sort of life making. It shows quite alot of the person making it. I look forward to hearing more about what you think. always interesting to hear peoples ideas.

They need to introduce a new way of filtering; you get to choose WHAT you want filtered.
I personally, being 19 and all, choose to have the mature filter off, because of so much beautiful, natural, unoffensive nude art, and some really powerful stuff with the occaisonal blood splatter. However, I dont like seeing some of the really gory stuff on here, and would like to be able to choose to not see that, whilst seeing pretty much everything else on here.
For younger artists/art lovers, maybe they could have different ranks of nudity and gore.
For example; no nudity; nudity of the back view of a person, no genitals showing; full nudity. And for gore; no gore; some blood/implied injuries, like hands or bandages over the wound; actually seeing the wound.
Maybe it could be taken further with a ranking system, of 5 stars, and users being allowed to rate how "graphic" a picture is, as well as the artist choosing who they do/dont think it is suitable for. Certain options being unlocked as you get older (you have to provide you D.O.B. at signup, right?) things like that.
I reckon it might give more artists a view of using it as a tool to help them, and protect others, rather than something to avoid and get around. Hopefully, anyway. (Not referring to you; previous thing that happened.)
...unfortunately, I don't know how we're supposed to suggest this to anyone, so it'll no doubt just stay an idea.
Anyway! Sorry for the rant. Yes, we do need more words in english in general. For example, we use the same word to describe love for a pet, as we do love; erotic love?! Haha.
Really really beautiful piece, it has such a delicate tenderness to it, so perfect for the subject. But a firmness too, like it's stopping the life slipping away again.
And finally, possibly a stupid question... what's that lump on the embreyo? His heart?

I refer such creatures called hermaphrodites as "shi" or "hir" on roleplaying chats. I'd usually only roleplay with the furry anthro such as this fox here.

My sister and I were talking about this yesterday. It's why I think people still go with dressing baby boys in blue and baby girls in pink. Just so that you know what pronoun to use to talk to them - to relate to them better. Otherwise all that's left to call the baby is 'it' which can sound a bit rude or not right when talking to someone about their kid for the first time.
