I'm totally beat after MFF. I spent the day arranging my lists of work and finishing off some illustration jazz. I also figured I'd upload some things to FA, because I've been neglecting the place. While I was digging up old files, I discovered a half-finished piece I'd abandoned way back in the dungeons of my picture folders. D'you remember this fellow? [link] I started this picture right after I finished that one. So, I figure what better to try out the new system then with a very old image?

So, I spent an hour or two rocking out to the Scissor Sisters and working on it. I had a surprising and interesting experience employing all the different things I've learned since, working with traditional, and also everything I've soaked up in painting class, and the finished image is rather different than the thing I started on. The most noticable difference is the color leading into and obscuring the figure, which enables image to lead the eye through and out again. It creates a more coherant image, thus avoiding the cookie-cutter look. I am finally escaping that dasterdly cartoon influence that retarded my work for so long.

I wouldn't call it finished, but it wasn't a very good picture to begin with, so I'm going to let it alone and move on to better things... or more likely start nibbling away at all the commissions I've accumulated.
