Description

It was a frigid morning on the mountain side. Renegade traversed carefully on the steep slope, one ear to the snow above and another to the valley below. He had heard rumors of avalanches from passing birds and was determined not to get caught in one. He was up to his knees in drifts and it would not bode well if he was in the midst of a disaster like that.

A shout caught his attention and his head turned to gaze down the mountain side. A few hundred feet below were three horses, a bright chestnut, a paint and... a bay ridden by a human. He flattened his ears as one of the stallion's spotted him and bolted towards him. The human's horse followed and Renegade charge down the slope towards him. His hulking figure moved faster than he expected down the hill and he body slammed into the smaller horse. Both it and it's rider called out in pain and it took off, it's rider struggling to hang on.

Renegade stood, sides heaving, as he watched the pair hurry away. The chestnut bachelor was long gone and-

"Thank you," The paint said, coming to Renegade's side.

"Yeah, whatever.." He huffed, trudging off down the hill.

"Where are you going?" The stallion called, trotting after.

"None of your business, colt. Get lost," He grumbled, pinning his ears in warning.

"Wait! But you look like-"

"I said get lost!" He shouted, charging the paint stallion who darted away from the clydesdale cross and off into the nearby tree line.

It had been a day and a half and Renegade was beyond annoyed. He wasn't sure if the bachelor was just horrible at being sneaky, or if he was intentionally making himself obvious. He had pointedly been ignoring him, but his patience was running thin. Perhaps it was better to just hear him out...

"I know you're there, colt. What do you want?" he snapped, stopping in the middle of the thicket. There was silence for a few moments before the bachelor revealed himself.

"Company?" He tried, keeping his distance from the larger and older stallion.

"You won't find it here-" He grumbled, turning to walk away.

"Wait! You look like Zulha!" Renegade grew still. How did this stallion know his dam? What did he know about him?

"How do you know her?"

"So you do know her?" The paint asked, trotting around to confront him again.

"She's my mother,"

"Are you a son of Khan?"

"Who's asking?" Renegade asked, eyes narrowing in suspicion.

"My name is Krusiel. I'm the son of Kita,"

"...Kita?" He asked, his eyes widening. Was this stallion his half brother?

"No. I see it in your gaze, I am not Khan's son. I... I never got to meet him. But I grew up with children of Khan,"

"So why don't you go bother them for company?" He asked, putting up his walls once more.

"Because they left me. Please, don't you want to have someone be able to watch your back? You'll finally be able to rest, and.. and I can tell you more about what happened to our herd," Krusiel said. Renegade looked him over. The stallion was obviously smaller than him, but fairly tall for his breed. His coat was clean of scars, but his eyes held a fire about them that made him uneasy.

"Fine, you can stay for now.." He relented with a flick of his tail. He wasn't left with any choice.
