Well its actually split into 3 books. I saw that one time on the hardback cover version of the first book there was an intricate display of gears and springs and the like which this made me think of. 

I personally really liked the series. Its got a very adventurous feel to it and with the addition of illustrations (drawn by the very talented artist, Kieth Thompson) its one of those few books that actually recreate the world in anew image. 

I'm not sure if you'd be interested or not, but when I think of Steampunk literature,I normally picture the Leviathan series.
