This female mountain gorilla did enjoy her relaxation time after dinner while the silverbag alfa male was sleaping a little bit further away in the dense forrest on the slopes of one of the Virunga National Park Vulcanoes in the Republic of Congo. I encountered this group of nine gorillas after a four hour climb through the dense vegetation to an altitude over 3500 meter. I remember I was totally exausted untill I saw the first gorilla head peeping through the bushes. All suffering instantly disappeared by the appearance of these magical animals!Photo taken with Nikon F801 and Fujicolor ISO 800 film.

We went from 1800 meter (6000 feet) to 3800 meter (12000 feet) chopping our way through the dense forrest with a manchettie knife

Ouch know wonder you were feeling buggered before you saw them but I can only imagine how that would all fade away when you got your first glimpse. Seeing them in the wild in on my list of things to do.
