Ok, this may come as a surprise, but I have something different for you now...This is NOT the actual deviation, you need to download the file below!
It's a short (a mere 30 secs.) 2D animation sequence which I created back in 2005. The file is only 7 MB, so please check it out!
I combined hand drawing with Photoshop coloring and composed in After FX 6.5
Animation is tedious, but the results are rewarding. There is a shot that includes rotoscoping...yeah, that's lame. -.-
I plan to do another bigger animation with a Sci-Fi thematic, I already have some cool scenes in mind that I want to create. It's gonna take some time, but it's really something I want to do eventually! So keep an eye out!
Ah yes, the music is taken from "Versus" (jap. movie), I just had to include it!
The scene actually had its original score, but it didn't fit so well so I exchanged it...

no, you can't animate in Photoshop! The animation was done in After Effects, a pro compositing tool...

Versus is such a friggin sweet movie, a little long but still sweet. Why does he keep knocking her out? Don't care, it's still hilarious because he does it so nonchalantly.

well, Photoshop is just the tool to create the drawings (or you do those on paper) and colorize. The animation is really done by hand, frame by frame. You can achieve some layer movements through After Effects which also deals as the compositing tool. That is, herein you create the sequence of frames that make the motion. So, Photoshop is just a drawing tool like any other.

Cool, so how did you put all those seperate frames together and have them flip through like a cartoon? I'm guessing you used PS to colour the thing, and some other program to run each frame as an animation?

yes, exactly. Photoshop was used for the coloring and After Effects for the compositing, i.e. putting together of the frames.

Really great. Especially nice job at the point where the attacker leaps.
And, I can see you managed to preserve a sketchy, 'hand-made' feeling to this animation. Well done.
