I have never seen them, but are there rubber gloves designed for hooks? I don't just mean surgical ones, maybe washing up gloves. Surely that would be practical?

Yeah, maybe, but the point of gloves is you can take them off, end up with clean dry hooks for another task. I don't honestly know, it is something that I have always wondered about but never found the answer.
