==========================================

Drago sighed softly, pulling up in his love, Morghanna’s van. The orange scaled dragon leaned back in the seat, listening to the pouring rain pounding on the roof of the vehicle, letting his mind drift a moment to his lovely little calico kitty. He felt a little warmth flutter in his chest for a moment until he realized that she wasn’t going to be home with him tonight. She left him a message about some big breakthrough that she was working on with Dr. Redline, to take her van home with him and swing back to pick her up in the morning.

He opened the door and rolled out of the seat and into the driving rain. Lightning flashed as the mix of heavy rain started to shift into thick, wet flakes of snow. He looked off in the distance as the flash illuminated the rolling hills in the distance, partially covered with snow. They seemed so much closer than normal, blotches of black stone and brown earth visible in patches through the pristine white snow.

Shivering a little, he flipped up the collar of his coat, drawing a hissing breath and grumbling as a fat, wet snowflake plopped right inside of it and melted. He squirmed as the icy cold water sat on the back of his neck for a moment before soaking into the collar of his shirt. He unlocked the door and pushed it open, stepping over the threshold and into their dark, empty home.

He slid off his coat, tugging at it a little to pull it off of his muscular arms and stomping his big, taloned feet to make sure he wasn’t tracking in any water as he did so. He hung his coat and aviator cap on the rack by the door, sliding the latter off over his long, blunt horns. Picking his way through the house, he flicked on a few lights here and there, making his way towards the kitchen.

He was just about to toss open the refrigerator and grab a few slices of cold pizza when he froze in his tracks. Right there in the middle of the island bar in the kitchen was a lovely little chocolate frosted cake with a single bright green wax candle in the middle of it. Bright multicolored sprinkles adorned the frosting making the whole thing pop with color. A birthday card decorated with little dancing calico cats was sitting on the table right in front of it.

He almost felt like his heart was going to burst as tears shimmered in his eyes, blurring his vision. He wiped at his eyes, smiling as he picked up the card. Opening it up, he read the message inside.

“I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there for you on such a huge day. I really want to be there with you and it’s a massive disappointment that I can’t be there with you right now. We can make up for it very soon, I promise. Just promise me you’ll light this candle, close your eyes, make a big wish, take a deep breath and blow it out. Then enjoy at least a little of the cake. I hope you’ll really enjoy it.”

Setting the card aside, he leans down and gives the cake a big sniff, murring happily as his nostrils are filled with the warm smell of chocolate and fresh, real vanilla. His kitty had either gone to a really upscale bakery to get this, or she had found time in her busy schedule to make this for him herself.

He lifted his head, looking at the candle. The almost neon green wax clashed horribly with the cake itself. Smiling, he conjured the flame in his belly, enjoying the warmth as it built and rose, keeping it small and light. He pursed his lips as though he were whistling and blew a thin, hot stream of fire and ignited the candle. It spit and sparked a little oddly, but he thought nothing of it.

Following through on what his kitty wanted, he closed his eyes, wishing with all of his heart that she could have been with him tonight. Unseen by him, the candle erupted into sparks, a green smoke billowing off of it for a moment. He took a deep breath, inhaling the sweet scent of dragonfruit to his surprise before blowing out the candle.

The big dragon waved his hand around, driving off the surprising amount of smoke as he looked down at the cake a little sadly. He really wanted her to be there to share this with him. He almost didn’t want to try any of it at all, but he had made a promise to her. Couching a little, a warmth building in the dragon’s big chest, he grabbed a plate and cut a small slice of the cake.

He smiled as he placed it on the plate, seeing lovely, buttery vanilla cake swirled together with a deep, rich chocolate cake. Warmth continued to build in his chest as he took a for full and placed it in his waiting maw. The wonderful flavors melted and mingled on his tongue as he leaned back against the counter, the wood creaking a little as his tail wagged side to side, rattling the lower cabinet doors.

He closed his eyes for a moment and felt a sudden burst of heat rush from his chest and through the rest of his body. He felt his clothing tighten over his body, almost falling over backwards as the counter seemed to disappear from under his rump! He opened his eyes and immediately felt dizzy as he was suddenly looking down from a higher viewpoint.

A second rush of heat and his chair collapsed under his increasing weight. The table and its contents were spilled onto the floor as his growing thighs snapped the legs off of one side of the table and overturned it. Orange scales were swelling into view as the seams on his shirt and pants started to split apart over bulging muscle and swelling bulk. Feeling the heat starting to build again he leapt to his feet to rush outside only for his horns to jam into the ceiling, stalling him just enough for another spurt to hit.

There was a soft pop as his clothing exploded into tatters as his head and shoulders slammed through the ceiling, straight through the second floor and out of the rooftop. His feet demolished the rest of the first floor, smashing through the front wall of their home and shoving a pile of broken furniture out into the falling snow! He blinked, looking around as he heard the sky rumbling once more. Thundersnow was a rarity around here, but it did happen and the light streaking through the sky illuminated his giant body, barely kept modest by the ruins of their house! Glancing off to the side, he let out a sigh of relief as he saw hit kitty’s van was off to the side and unharmed.

Drago blinked as he felt like his body was trying to draw in on itself, his skin was getting too tight as his body started to heat up once more. Snowflakes hissed into steam as they touched his scales until he burst outwards in size again. The remains of their home were scattered in all directions as his feet shot across the street, tearing up the fence on either side of their neighbor's house. His tail drove out into the forest behind, smashing through and uprooting leafless trees and scattering them everywhere before he finally managed to get to his feet.

The dragon tilted his head as he heard a deep, sultry chuckle that seemed to fill the sky as the lightning flashed, illuminating the hills again. To his surprise, the smooth, rounded slopes shifted and turned towards him. The black and brown markings weren’t earth and stone, it was the fur of his love, Morghanna, grown into a mountainous titan who lifted her head and smiled down at him. He felt the heat building in his chest again, his scales tightening and his feet starting to slide, digging into the earth below.

Her voice echoed through the night sky, rattling windows in their frames as she spoke. “Happy birthday, my handsome dragon, I hope your wish has come true!”
