Description "In Bravil lies the home of the Lucky Old Lady and a "lucky" Bosmer, and today fortune shines on both... but only one shines back."

"...Ungolim, the leader of the Black Hand, the Listener. He routinely visits the Lucky Old Lady statue each night, which is where he receives the list of people to visit that have performed the Night Mother Ritual..."

A scene from the "A Kiss Before Dying" TES IV: Oblivion quest.

Well I wouldn't say this elf is a protagonist, and the "sword" is actually a torch, to be honest.

As much as I was disappointed with mostly shallow contents of Oblivion, this one story actually moved me. The Paranoia quest is a great topic to begin with.

About the picture itself: firstly, I love the composition. Moons, chapel of Julianos, the statue (I don't recall it from the game though, is it Dibella?) and the main character himself.

Now, the strongest, most striking thing about this picture, is the contrast between monumental chapel and statue, and the grotesque dying elf, that just got shot in the neck. His posture is not a heroic death in any way, like often depicted elswhere. Instead, we're presented with a spazm, unnaturally bent head and torch just yet fallen and hitting the ground. This "still life" element gives a lot of dynamics to the scene.

I really like the fact, that the dealer of this death is not found in the picture. First of all, it implies in a great way how anonymous and different TES main characters are. Secondly it makes it simply more interesting. Gives it some mistery, an area for thinking (while often these days everything is given to us right away, leaving no doubts).

The statue's posture and look suggests mercy (and that is why Dibella was my first shot). It is a bitter irony, a stone cold depiction of merciful goddess, aware witness, but unable to do anything.

And then there is the monumental cathedhral, edgy and dour, for me somehow representing justice, but I guess that might be an overinterpretation.

It's a very artistic, inspiring piece, not that often found amongst FanArts. Only fault I could find is that during rain the moons shouldn't be that visible, but that's just a tiny detail. Overall, the piece is great, I wish more people (including me) would put so much thought to their works.

Yah, it's a scene from the Dark Brotherhood quest-line where you accidentally kill the Listener.

The statue is the Lucky Old Lady, hehe. The Night Mother is buried beneath it, and she wanted Ungolim dead. Soo I'm pretty sure the statue is laughing at him rather than feeling sympathetic.

Old Lady was in Bravil, and this here is Skingrad. And she doesn't look amused... There's even a rainy teardrop on her cheek.

The statue of the Lucky Old Lady stands in Bravil. Ungolim is killed in Bravil. In front of said statue.

This is a beautiful piece of artwork. I love the amount of detail here, from the rain to the blood, to the accurate likeness of the Lucky Lady/Night Mother and the city of Bravil. The lighting is gorgeous, including the reflections on the ground, and the inclusion of Masser and Secunda is a wonderful addition. The pose of the character, as if he is in mid-fall, is also excellently executed (if you will pardon the pun e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Lick)"/> ).

As an Elder Scrolls fan, I love this work. This illustrates one of the best moments in Oblivion, and I can clearly remember my own Dark Brotherhood character doing the exact same thing. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

All in all, wonderful job! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

This piece of fan art is rather unique and it has very good conceptual tone. I especially like how if you look closely, the background appears to be giving the victim a judging look and yet also a pitying look, which adds a nice dose of impact to the picture. The use of color has been done in a way that fits the colour style used in Oblivion. This picture makes the quest in the game mean more to me now and it feels as if you've been given more of an insight into why you did this to this character. It really feels as if i'm playing the game again

good luck in the contest hieronymus7Z!

That's insanely kind, ma'am D:
I've had doubts adding any light inside the chapel and it was pretty challenging to get a "correct" color scheme - made a few, was dissatisfied with all. So this one is the most pleasuring to me. I also have this piece in a blue-cyan kind of tones (as usual for the most of my works, lol) - probably will upload it somewhere.
Thank you quite a lot!
I didn't think the piece would bring so much pleasure to viewers, so much remembrance about the game (even though I highly hoped it would). It really is a delight for me, to see how much people like this, how much they do.
Thank you again!

Thank you, thank you, thank you

no problem friend,

you should be very proud of this piece, i haven't played Oblivion in a long time so seeing such great art for it made me realize how much i really love RPGs and it made me want to be a game artist even more.

So thanks for uploading it on to deviantart and the blue-cyan style version sounds interesting if you upload it somewhere please tell me i would love to see it, if that is ok.

I really love this piece. Ungolim's pose, his soaked green brocade doublet, the lit torch falling to the rain-slick stones, the Lady looming out from the silhouette of Mother Mara's chapel, it's all so masterfully rendered. It particularly captures the secrecy and silence of this crucial moment, Ungolim's last gasp and the clatter of his torch muffled by the patter of rain.

Man, this piece is great. There's a lot of good TES fanart out there but this one holds a story. I like how you portrayed the fight with Ungolim. He's a legend for being able to sense Assassins close by. But he was unable to sense you. I like this a lot because in the actual game, I always ended up just throwing hands with him, with no sense of stealth. Either way, good work.

This is absolutely gorgeous. I found it on Tumblr and immediately recognized the Lucky Old Lady. I thought I recognized Ungolim, but followed the link to just be sure. I love being able to tell the source without citation and I think you did that here. The rain adds a certain melancholy element to the piece.

Totally amazing piece, here!
Kinda sad that a few people that have seen this don't truly realize what's going on, though.
My favorite quest in Oblivion, besides the Shivering Isles, and I still remember how the last time you see a certain loyal Speaker is right after this scene.
Truly brings back so many bittersweet and nostalgic feelings... :'3

This is amazing, beautiful, awesome, and provoking. I almost skipped over it, like a do with most of the stuff that ends up in my inbox, but the statue caught my eye, and I went, "Night Mother!" I'm a total dork, I know. But this made me grin widely. Well done, you!

This is a really great illustration of this event, very dramatic and immersive, it feels like we're there, watching this instant like time froze in shock and horror. The composition is excellent and the colors fit very nicely the gloomy atmosphere of Bravil and the theme of the Dark Brotherhood. Your style is great, precise and technical yet still emotive. I'd like to give a special mention to the light reflections on the watery ground.
