Beelzerufus hematolingus , or "THE VAMPIRE HUMMINGBIRD"...

Name:
Beelzerufus hematolingus , (“Red demon (Beelzebub) with bloody tongue”)...

Description:
Reddish-wine, orange-yellowish, dark brown and some black spots.
The eyes are bright red.
Size: 1- 1.5 Inches, 1.5 grams before eating, 3.2 grams after…

Feeding:
Because of the metabolism, they only drink warm blooded, living animals. It can eat ”drink” its own weight twice per night.
They usually attack in swarms (if the prey is over 15 pounds).

Social Habits:
This birds are very gregarious, occasionally living in “Hives” of several thousand’s.

Ecology:
This species of bird is strictly nocturnal . During the day these gregarious birds rest on cave ledges. The nest is a heap of droppings, usually above water, either a stream, a lake or the sea, on which 1-2 glossy white eggs are laid which soon become stained reddish and black.

Its saliva is also highly anesthetic.

I is known that this species hibernate for several months in winter seasons, but only in the southern and northern areas….

Area of distribution:
Only in few relictual and ancient Temperate Forest of North and South America. There are two subspecies, (maybe different species): Beelzerufus hematolingus hematolingus (north) and B.h. diabolicus (south).
