Does a good job of capturing Gandalf's ceaseless urgency and need to be somewhere very important, yesterday. Well done, again. My only complain is the darkness of this, but I imagine that's the photo...

Thanks for your comment. I do find it a challenge getting accurate photos of my work, and you're correct this is darker than the actual painting.

Well it's lovely work all the same. Check out my gallery if you wouldn't mind, and have a minute some time.

Howe is great, I was happy to pay tribute to him by doing this copy.

Allan Lee has done illustrations of LofR, I got a pretty good deal on the set through amazon. Allan Lee and John Howe really get Tolkien, I'm less impressed with other Tolkien artists, especially Ted Nasmith ( I can't read a Tolkien book he's illustrated).

I only know Lee and Howe... and that's mostly because they did the conceptual art on the movies!
Mind you, I know what you mean, though... I once found a clip of the Rankin-Bass movie of the Hobbit, where Smaug wakes up and announces, "Well, thief, I feel you and I smell your air."
I instantly X-ed out the tag, because the portrayal of Smaug was far better in the Sierra videogame! [link]
(Love that game - it's so faithful to the spirit of Tolkien, and what they take from the book they get right. Of course, there's artistic game-licence, and there are bits added in - even a few extra NPCs that help you out at some points)

The game looks fun!
I am hopeful the movie will set a new standard for Hobbitesque art - I can't wait, and I'm thrilled Howe and Lee are the artistic sources for the films.

Yup, it's certainly a good game. My version is on PC, and generally it's lots of fun - I just get these occasional nuisances where the game crashes for no apparent reason (usually when a cluster of "courage point" gems are released for completing a Side Quest)... or sometimes, some bug in the programming might occasional cause some gem-clusters to not be released on killing an enemy, resulting in me being short-changed by the end of a chapter (I like to get a perfect score). That tends to happen most with little spiders, if I use an upgraded jump-attack with the walking stick.
Other than that, it works great.
