Seconding this completely. The art style is very detailed and mimics the anime right down to the bright and fun colors every episode uses, but the plot? Really? Kid wakes up late, rushes to Professor Oak's lab, runs into extremely grating and egocentric rival, and winds up with a spare starter Oak had lying around that happens to be Pikachu? I mean, I'm pretty sure Oak's dialogue is nearly a copy of what he said in the first episode too. (I'm guessing the next page has the girl pick Pikachu up and get electrocuted, and I didn't even peek yet.)

But the art is still very nice, and it's really what makes this comic worth reading. It's very rare to see an artist put this much effort into each panel and work hard to mimic the art style of the show so well, so it's really a treat to see it happen.

It's basically taking the girl from FRLG, throwing in the rival from the Sinnoh region part of the show then completely ripping off how the show began. The only thing that makes up for it is the artist's lovely style.

Oh and you were right about the whole girl-picks-up-Pikachu-gets-shocked thing. It happened in only the second panel.

I'm putting money on 'Kairi' and Paul becoming an item. With everything else being so blandly obvious, it'll be a miracle if it doesn't happen.

MTE. I'm sort of wondering if this is meant to be a backstory for Paul, and if that's the case, then it'd be nice to see Kairi get her heart brutally broken before Paul heads off to go hang with Ash.

But considering the fact that the comic is so far not only just like the beginning of the series but also like the beginning of a lot of new trainer fics, I'm guessing we'd be more likely to see the more predictable plot line you described. The requester's reaction to criticism so far only cements that thought. Seems like the priority is just on having her OC set out on a typical trainer journey and hooking up with Paul, regardless of whether or not readers can predict everything that happens in the story before it comes along.

So, hey, how soon do you think it'll be before we see Paul join Kairi as a traveling partner, the introduction of the awkward but obligatory third wheel (extra points if it's a constantly love-starved expy of Brock, if not Brock himself), and the standard Team Rocket stalkers who start off vaguely badass but get progressively more persistent and annoying in their quest to steal Pokémon/Kairi's Pikachu?

Judging by her 'story' which she writes in her journal instead of in a normal Literature deviation, the whole Paul as a travel partner seems to have already happened or is close to happening and in place of Jessie/James, she has Butch/Cassidy, the rivals of Jessie/James in certain episodes.

Even I could start a Pokemon trainer adventure story off better than she has. Hell, I could summarize one better. Watch this.

"A young woman, with dreams of seeing the world, is gathering berries in a forest near her hometown when she comes across a lone Pokemon egg. With this egg will come not only her chance to see the world but danger as well. For a man called 'The Collector' wants the egg for the Pokemon it'll hatch into and he'll stop at nothing to get what he wants."

See? Not really that hard to come up with something more unique. I just thought about it for a bit like what would the hero be doing when their adventure began, how exactly would their adventure begin and what kind of antagonist would work good with the story.

Wow. I was actually expecting Team Rocket OCs (the kind who are basically a male and a female with the exact same personality, names stemming from random elements/other outlaws/threatening-sounding words, and a random talking Pokémon sidekick). But, uh, Butch and Cassidy. Huh.

In any case, I'm guessing they have the exact same personalities as Jessie and James and that, if this is an amalgam of the show and games, we'll be seeing things like Kairi catching a Bug or Flying-type next, maybe the Sensational Sisters giving her a badge, some plot where she goes to stop Team Rocket... Actually, it might be fun to predict where this story is going to go and then see how many things actually turn out to be right, just because this kind of story would head in that direction. It would be like a game! Maybe a drinking game, even!

Also, I would totally read a fanfic with the summary you wrote. Just saying.

xD we've turned an unoriginal crappy story into a drinking game, it'll be all the rage soon.

I fully predict that the story will rip off the entire Pokemon series (not in any necessary order) and will be filled with KairixMultiple people throughout it.

I would also read a fanfic with the summary I just wrote. Hell, maybe I'll even write it someday.
