Anyway, before I say anything else, this was based on a scene from the sitcom Scrubs, where the two main characters J.D. and Turk sing about their love for each other, which should not be confused with gay love because it is guy love xD

So, I finally did this!! If you remember, I wrote a journal about this a year ago: hikarimichi.deviantart.com/jou… I asked for people's opinions on whether I should do a comic about James Potter and Sirius Black from Harry Potter singing Guy Love because I lacked the tools, skills and cooperators to do an animation as I had first intended. I decided it was better to draw the comic than do nothing, so I did!! I don't know what motivated me all of a sudden since this is a pretty old idea. Perhaps it is that I started re-watching Scrubs a while ago. I have no idea how I came up with this, anyway. Well I love Harry Potter and I love Scrubs so I guess that's just the way my mind works. The first part I completed was the writing of the lyrics. It was based on the original lyrics by Debra Fordham but I only changed it to match the Harry Potter story. This was for me a great way to combine two of the best bromances ever (Troy and Abed from Community should also count). Some people might argue that Sirius and Lupin is also a bromance and it seems to be a more popular pairing. But Sirius and James were the closest at least before James' death, even the book states that. So I did this with the two of them.

I made sure the rhymes and rhythm of the song remained unchanged. I take very close notice of those things, since they're important to me and have been ever since I was little and wrote rhymed stories and stuff like that. (I know I draw a lot during my spare time, but writing is very important to me as well). Especially since the rhymes and rhythm of the original song is perfect. I wanted to try and live up to that xD

This comic consists of 35 panels. It's possibly the comic I've spent the most work on ever since it's SO long and at the same time, very detailed (my longest comic ever submitted here was 36 panels, but I wasn't as thorough with that one since it's very old and I divided it up into two pages, while I just used up one page here). And OH GOD it took me so much time. Probably 2 weeks. No kidding. I also did a lot of pre-planning, including ACTUALLY DOING RESEARCH on what kind of clothes were popular in the 1970s. Well, they're young here (about 19) so I figured they would still dress like Muggles. And I didn't want them to wear disco clothes since I just couldn't see it. So I decided to take the punk direction instead. Which I thought fitted these guys since they're rebellious and everything. In other words, all the clothes pictured in this comic exist IRL and most of them are also typical of the 70s (the only ones that don't exist IRL are the T-shirts Sirius and James are wearing – which I designed myself – and Madam Malkin's clothes). You might recognize the T-shirts from the Harry Potter prequel, since I based them on J. K. Rowling's description from the story. And they're white … Since, well, the first piece of fan art I ever saw of them was made by my IRL friend AjnosFTW (ajnosftw.deviantart.com/art/Po… ) and since I saw that drawing I've never been able to picture the T-shirts as anything other than white ^^ Since they were about 17 in the Harry Potter prequel, this would take place just a few years after "Elvendork", and kind of look the same except they have both grown goatees. Sirius gets a (MINOR) haircut a little while before the wedding, according to my headcanon, so that it wouldn't be too long when he got arrested later. Sirius is also wearing a leather biker jacket (which is SUPER PRICEY IRL) and ripped biker jeans, appropriately enough, since he is a biker. I thought that added to his coolness factor and it might make James look kind of plain and boring, so I gave him some tartan trousers and accessories to make up for it. I was very happy to learn that Sirius had long hair when he was young. Before I thought he only grew it long when he was depressed, but at this point, he was probably at his happiest. I can't stand drawing Sirius with short hair, so that was good for me xD Sirius is my biggest fangirl object from Harry Potter BTW I hope I succeeded with making him look hotter than James (since he's supposed to be). But it's somehow hard to draw someone really attractive in this cartoon style. Drawing his post-Azkaban self is easier since he's not supposed to be as much of a heartthrob then.

Well, the backstory behind this is: James and Lily just got engaged and James chose Sirius to be his best man (NO SURPRISE THERE). That much is canon. Then the wedding preparations started, including going shopping for wedding clothes. So James and Sirius went together. Haha, this really feels like they're a couple instead of Lily and James since they go shopping for wedding clothes WITHOUT LILY Well, maybe it has something to do with the groom not being allowed to see the bride in her wedding dress before the actual wedding? Interpret it as you want. Anyway, these two go to Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. I think Sirius went aside for a while to run some errand or whatever, so James went before him. Then Sirius comes too and starts singing to James about their "guy love". LOL!
So what James is holding is some robes he just picked up to look at. Then he drops them, I don't know when exactly. Anyway, it's a replacement for the chart Turk is holding in the original video since James doesn't work in a hospital.

Now: Some comments on the lyrics!

A love unspecified: In this panel (and in later panels) you see Sirius singing off-panel. I tried to convey that by using the manga technique of drawing the character's chibi face in the speech bubble, but since I thought it was more fun, I drew him in Animagus form, inspired by the manga Fruits Basket where the Sohma family are always seen in animal form when drawn as chibis like this. Hope you got all that.
"Prongs the Stag": Yes, "chocolate stag" would sound hilarious. But there is no apparent reason why Sirius would call James "chocolate stag". If anyone would call James that, it would probably be Lupin since he never misses an opportunity to talk about chocolate. So I went with "Prongs the Stag".
The crowd will always talk and gag: … Yeah. "Gag" as in "being amused" or alternatively "puke". Pick your favourite.
"This stag can't stand the world's disdain": The best replacement I could come up with for "This bear can't bear". Stag and stand do sound similar.
There's nothing gay about it in our eyes: And yet you two look really gay to me … Or well, That's what's great about this song … It's so sweet and affectionate even though you keep saying that you are just friends! But I bet you're a little bit in love as well
I can't wait till we decide on all the wedding songs: This was the hardest line to write. In the original it's "You're the only man who's ever been inside of me", referring to the time when Turk took out J.D.'s appendix. But these guys, unfortunately, don't have a corresponding moment. So I had to make it sound like they were getting married instead. I'm not a prude or anything, it was just the best solution I could find xP Plus, "songs" rhymes with "Prongs".
Mhoohoohoohoohoo: If you've seen the original clip, you know that Zach Braff (J.D.) and Donald Faison (Turk) crack up a little bit when they hug at the end of the song. That was unintentional but was never cut. Anyway, I always thought it was funny and sweet, so I decided to use it in my comic too xD I guess Sirius and James were just having so much fun they couldn't help but start laughing XD

Other than that, there are hardly any good reference pictures of Madam Malkin's shop on the Internet, or even fan art. So I had to do the best I could with the material I could find, since I was too lazy to design the shop myself since I had already worked so hard with the rest of the comic. Which is why I used the shop from Lego Harry Potter for reference. As for Madam Malkin herself, there are not a lot of pictures of her either. I looked at the few drawings I could find and then changed it a little bit to my own liking. She's supposed to be in her early 50s here (when Harry meets her, it's more than 10 years later, so then she has grey hair and more wrinkles). Also, judging from the way she acts in the comic, she has nothing against LGBT people!! Good to know! xD

By the way, all the poses and expressions were referenced from the actual video. Why Sirius is J.D. and James is Turk? The main reason was that the lyrics worked better that way. But it also works because J.D. and Sirius are both the best friends of two people in a relationship (Turk and Carla for J.D., James and Lily for Sirius). That makes them kind of the third party in a way, but in another, Carla/Lily is the third party because they try to fit in with two best friends who have known each other for a very long time, and are super close. James is also kind of a jock and Turk is too. Sirius is not the day-dreaming, sensitive, nerdy guy that J.D. is though. As my sister said, "they're both kind of like Turk". But I think Sirius and James are a bit meaner than Turk and J.D., being bullies to those they dislike (Snape) and loyal friends to those they like.

Also, "My Musical" (the Scrubs episode in which they sing Guy Love) is in my opinion not only one of the greatest Scrubs episodes, but one of the greatest episodes of ANY TV show EVER. And I've watched a lot of TV shows. I think they achieved in just ONE episode what Glee didn't achieve in a whole series xD Sorry Glee fans, I've got nothing against you, I just don't like the show.

It was real fun drawing a comic again, but this made me so tired so I think I'll draw cartoons or shorter comics next time. This even inspired a follow-up comic (though set a little while before, I think), but without Scrubs references and only four panels long. I don't know when or if I'll draw that one, maybe later.
This made me feel kind of weird, drawing a comic about guys' love for each other when I'm a girl xD But then I remembered Debra Fordham who wrote the original song is a woman and that made me feel better.
