Description “Isn’t Africa beautiful children?!” Asked Master Johnson. “Yes, it is sir!” Raye answered rather loudly. “Brilliant.” I grumbled. We were getting off our bus to some city near the Savanna. The three of us were wearing kaki shorts, shirts, and wide brimmed hats. We looked like every other tourist here. Only we weren’t; the three of us where vampires. Long story short: I caught Master Johnson and a female companion in my house. They turned me into a vampire, and then a week later I made my best friend, Raye Sohma, into a vampire. Johnson took the two of us in and now we work for him in his mansion. I’m a butler and Raye’s a maid.
Moving on, the three of us were walking to our hotel when I finally asked, “Sir, why are we going on a safari?” He answered with a gleam in his eye, “Because, young one, I have never been on a safari before, and I figured I should see the world before I die!” It must have been a joke. Master Johnson was 300 years old and he looked like he was 28. “Sir? Why did you bring Zatch and I instead of Mr. Smith?” Raye piped in. Smith’s the head butler and forth in charge Mr. Johnson’s house. He’s also a vampire like everyone else in the house.
We arrived in front of the hotel. The sign was in some language I couldn’t read. We walked inside. The master was getting us checked in when I dropped the luggage. My eyes wondered when I saw him. I cursed, grabbed Raye by the arm, and dove behind the couch. “What are you doing, baka?!” She demanded. Raye and I can speak some Japanese. She called me an idiot by the way. I hushed her and whispered, “Ronald what’s his face is here.” She looked over the couch. She must have seen him because she said, “His last name is Donavan, remember?” I replied, “Whatever, we can’t let him recognize us!” To everyone that knew us before we became vampires, we were dead. I was pretty sure Ronald would have trouble understanding that two of his classmates that are supposed to be dead are still around. So Raye and I tiptoed to Master Johnson, picked up our luggage, and walked to our rooms. We prayed that Ronald didn’t see us.
After breakfast the next day, the Master, Raye, and I walked to the safari station. We were taking the public safari. The tram was really interesting. It was like a normal bus only the back had a balcony thing. Ronald was on the same safari as us so Raye and I kept our heads pointed towards the window. Other than the threat of Ronald, it was a nice safari. We say lots of elephants, lions, and zebras. It’s amazing to see these creatures for real. The tram stopped and everyone got off. This is when we got to observe the animals more closely. I got out the camcorder and started taping a lioness and her cubs. A little bit later, while recording bathing elephants, I smelled blood. My vampire nose is very sensitive. I decided to ignore the smell. We were in the wild after all.
About an hour later, everyone that was on the safari was back in the tram. The last people were coming in when suddenly something came crashing through the window. Crash!! Glass shattered and I saw it was a head. Ronald’s head. People were screaming when it landed. Master Johnson tapped Raye’s shoulder and mine. He pointed to the back door. We gathered our backpacks and got through the door. The bus suddenly gave a lurch. It was moving! The three of us jumped off the railing. We rolled when we hit the ground. Our kakis were tattered, but we were okay. The wonders of being a vampire. We stood up and saw two mysterious figures near by. They were wearing huge masks and grass skirts. The two carried shields. One had a spear, and the other had a dagger. But the thing that caught our attention was the headless body lying next to them.
One of the murderers pointed their pointer finger towards us. I started to tell the master to get to safety, but he was already gone. “You ready, Raye?” I asked with a grin. “I guess so.” She weakly replied. We pulled out our weapons we got the on our first day of work. The vampires in Master Johnson’s mansion weren’t just maids and butlers. They were also his bodyguards. Back to the fight. I pulled out my foot-long, semi-automatic Night Claw pistol. Raye unsheathed her twin, unnamed short swords. The savages rushed at us weapons bored like fangs. Claire and I did the same.
I rushed at the spear wielding savage. I didn’t know it if was a he or a she, so I’m just going to call it ‘it’. Anyway, the person was fast, so fast that its spear was a blur. But I was faster. The spear swept at my legs. I jumped, but the guy pushed the spear upward. It barely missed. I kicked towards the killer’s concealed face but it raised its shield, blocking my foot. It pushed me away, and I landed some feet away. The impact took the breath out of me. Then I looked up and saw the end of the spear coming to my face.
I moved my head, but it scratched me on my cheek. Blood slowly poured out. I swung the Night Claw and hit his arm. The guy kicked at me, but I evaded. The spear flew at my face again. This time I flipped backwards 3 times (isn’t being a vampire great?) and landed in a crouch. I stood up and fired. I knew this guy was fast, but moving its shield to block the bullet was amazing. The shield shattered, and the savage rushed towards me. I tried to fire again but it knocked the Night Claw out of my hand. I jump back, putting enough brown grass between me and that masked beast. I had to think of a plan. I saw a tree with lions under it. Then I had my plan.
The freak rushed at me once more. I went on the defensive and evaded. With every kick, swing, and sweep it threw at me, I evaded and moved closer to a nearby tree. When we were finally at the lone wood, the savage tried stabbing my face with his spear again. This time, I grabbed it and snapped it in two. The savage threw its half away and tried kicking. I rushed forward, hand extended. I grabbed its masked head and smashed it against the tree. If a normal person tried this, the savage would bee bleeding a little and the mask would be broken. But I wasn’t normal. When the head hit the tree there was a splat. The mask shattered and the trunk was painted with blood and brains. The body slumped to the ground. I licked my hand and looked around for Raye.
Raye won too. Her arm was bleeding a little. “You okay?” I asked with concern. “I’m fine, Zatch.” She covered the wound with her hand. We looked at the body of her attacker. “Good job you two!” yelled a voice from behind us. We jumped. Master Johnson came up from our rear. “Come on, lets head back,” he said while giving me back my gun. We started hiking through the grass. But all I could think of was: ‘who were those guys and why were they was tough as vampires?’
