Mmm, copper wire. Just bought some from the electrical section, haven't tried it yet but the guy that measured it said copper was less likely to break than aluminum. I repeatedly bent the end of the coated 0.75 copper wire by hand and it broke twice as fast as pvc-coated steel wire, but the thick coating took significant effort to tear away, so several strands of this copper wire should hold even if one strand breaks. Puppet makers twist their wires together, but I've discovered that several untwisted strands are more resilient while taking the same effort to bend.
BTW I've read that latex is not as resistant to environment as silicone, unless what is called "latex rubber" is very different from latex garments material I've read about.
