I really like the intricacy of all the different tattoos. My personal favourites are the epaulets on his shoulders. I've never seen or heard of anything like that before.
Was the idea your own, or did it come from a traditional Russian prion tattoo? The only reason I ask is because the epaulets like the ones tattooed to Leonid's shoulders match those that would have been on the jackets worn by higher ranking military officers in the European armies during the 18th & 19th centuries (I'm a total military history nerd), so it could be symbolic of Leonid's status or stature inside whatever Russian crime family he belongs/belonged to.
I apologize for being so nosy. I'm just the terribly curious sort. Keep up the good work!

You're quite correct! These are based on epaulets seen in Russian prison tattoos from time to time (though epaulets themselves are to display their status before being arrested). I came up with this specific design (they have skulls in the design to indicate he murdered), but there are quite a few varieties out there on members of his group (he's a part of the vory v zakone).

I find Russian prison/crime culture fascinating, as the violent nature of the Russians make the Italian or Irish mobs look like small-time racketeering businesses, and I also love symbolism which is heavily present in Russian prison tattoos. I didn't recognize the skulls on the top of the epaulets because of the angle from which the portrait was drawn, but I can see them now that you pointed them out to me.
