Awesome! Thank you for starting this well before his birthday, gives everyone a lot of time to finish something new. One question though: Are all of those mandatory, or can we skip the photo?

Thanks for letting me know!

Noooo, not that scene again, I can't, I have no more tears to cry... This is heartbreaking, of course, but also absolutely brilliant. I love the rough style and shading - and both characters are PERFECT. I've always loved Thorin's and Dwalin's relationship, the two "old" warriors who've been through so much together. I would love to see that scene in the movie, although it will probably be Beorn who carries Thorin away from the battlefield, just like in the book...

(I have no idea how I'm going to survive the third movie. I'll probably die of sadness right there with Thorin, KΓli and FΓli. ) Wonderful artwork, I'm faving !

This is a terribly sad part of the story, but you depicted it beautifully. The blurred, gray of the image really sets the tone. I like that you have Dwalin bearing Thorin away from the battlefield. I'd love to see that in the film. Great work on this!

I like very much that you kept this as a rough painting. It's a rough scene, that's for sure. I know it's going to be difficult to handle in the theater.
You interpreted this beautifully. I love how solemn you made Dwalin's face. He has a job he has to do now. There will be time for grieving later.

Please keep up the excellent work.

(I haven't honestly heard anything about their deaths from any of the actors or the production team yet, so maybe it wont happen? I'm torn between what I want to be true, whether I want them to stick to the book on this or do anything but. Have you heard anything?)

Thanks so much! I'm both looking forward to it and dreading it, tbh I appreciate your kind words, thank you. Happy to hear you liked this!

(Aidan and Richard have mentioned it in interviews, so yeah, think it's going to happen. Unavoidable, really, for continuity Though Richard hints that it's going to be so much better than what can be expected. What that means, I have no idea, since I'm expecting broken hearts and rivers of tears )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xdeathbybananax In reply to himlayan [2013-01-28 03:21:18 +0000 UTC]

You're very welcome!

(Have they? You wouldn't happen to have links to those would you? Or know who the interviews were with? I haven't seen them.
I have no idea what he would mean by that either! Richard must be channeling Gandalf and his habit of speaking in riddles. I mean, a character dying is a character dying. I don't know how that can get "better", only worse by way of manner of death. I'm re-reading the novel at the moment and haven't gotten to that part so I don't remember exactly how they die, but still. I'll be bringing a box of tissues with me. Maybe a few boxes.)

I follow Richard's interviews more than Aidan, so I can't directly quote Aidan on that, sadly. I've randomly seen Aidan quotes from Tumblr about it, though. As for Richard, he hints on it here:

[link]

For Aidan, I heard him mention Kili's death rather casually in one of the many interviews released from the press junket (sorry, I tried to look for it, but there's too many and I don't have enough time ). He also mentions his end as being non-heroic here:

[link]

Sorry if this all sounds so vague! But I did hear Aidan directly mention it in an interview, I just can't find it now.

lilis-gallery In reply to himlayan [2013-02-04 19:03:42 +0000 UTC]

Wait, Aidan Turner mentioned KΓli's end as being non-heroic ? That's really weird, since FΓli and KΓli die in a most honorable way - basically sacrificing themselves for their uncle... That's about as heroic a it gets ! I wonder why he said that. I hope the movie will stay true to the book and not turn these scenes into something different. But I can't imagine movie-KΓli dying a non-heroic death.

Oh that's no problem! Thank you so much for those! Though, I'm not entirely sure I want to watch them [dream world, no! don't slip away yet!]

I definitely watch more of Richard's interviews too. Martin follows after that, and Sir Ian. These guys are just funny as anything. And it pleases me so much how big a fan Richard is. All I want out of life now is to have a discussion of Tolkien's works with him, over cake and tea or something ridiculous like that.

Thank you so much for the links!

No prob! I think we're one of the few movieverse fandoms that are already in mourning for something that won't happen until 2 years from now, haha. Richard's interviews are amazing, I love listening to his voice.
