This picture is a birthday gift for my friend manymasksmanyfaces . He's a big fan of mermaids so I gave him a picture of one of his mermaid OCs.

Nathan and Pearl Part 4: Once Upon a Time...,Once Upon a Time, there was a mermaid known as Pearl. Pearl sat upon a rock that jutted from the sea. The weathered stone was not necessarily a comfortable seat, but her scales took the brunt. Her upper half was strong enough to endure all but the deepest of sea pressures, a little stone would not hurt her. Pearl had a tail that was Electric Blue Peacock Cichlid, as the humans call them. Since mermaids spend most of their time with the sun being a distant light underwater. It felt good to lay out in the sun like seals and just soak up the pleasant warmth. Although, considering they lived under the sea with less light, it could be harsh to their eyes. Therefore, Pearl closed her eyes as she relaxed while another mermaid combed her long blonde hair. The other mermaid, Lorelei, shared the rock and had flaming red hair and eyes as green of seaweed. Her tail resembled… a Green Coris Wrasse, in human terms. Lorelei wore what humans called sunglasses, so her eyes adjusted to the surface faster. Additionally, Lorelei wore a purple bikini top like humans wear that had lines to make it look like seashells. Pearl opted for a sea shell bra. Mermaid made rope kept it secure against her body. Lorelei certainly seemed more comfortable… but Pearl had no interest in wearing human clothes. Lorelei combed Pearl’s blonde hair with an unusual comb. The comb had a long handle. She had four short prongs that forked up like a trident but too close together, a handheld trident made of metal? While she worked, Lorelei sung a song that Pearl didn’t recognize as she It was soothing to her ears. The voice of the sea makes a simple acapella performance reverberate with musical power. Not to mention the surf and gulls acted like an accompaniment, “I'm gonna soak up the sun, I'm gonna tell everyone to lighten up I'm gonna tell 'em that, I've got no one to blame For every time I feel lame, I'm looking up I'm gonna soak up the sun, Before it goes down on me~”Pearl opened her blue eyes, “Where did you hear that song?”Lorelei finished the combing, “The surface.”Pearl groaned, “I shouldn’t have asked… Who cares about the surface?”Lorelei leans back disgruntled, “We all gotta leave the pod sometime Pearl. Except for you, you say clammed up.”“Shut up you manatee!” Pearl shouted back.The two gave a hollow laugh, but they looked away from each other where the words stung. Pearl glanced over the horizon with her head on her arm as she rests against the rock, “There’s nothing on land for mermaids…”Pearl’s introspection was broken as Lorelei splashed her with water, “How about the boys?”Pearl splashed her back! “Ugh! Gross! Are you.. being serious? Humans are so… bland! They have no color, and they swim worse than a flounder!”Lorelei tilted her head as she looked Pearl in the eyes, “Have you ever talked to a human?”Pearl scoffed, “Oh, yeah, I should go up to one and ask if they’re wet behind the gills!”Pearl looked at Lorelei confused with a sudden realization, “Why are you asking me all of this? What are you going to the surface… without me?”Lorelei blushed and shook her head frantically, “No! I wouldn’t!”However, before Pearl could pry further, a boat was sailing near them. “Oh! Here’s your chance to talk to humans now!”Pearl smirked as she saw the faint shape of fisherman, and she began to sing her siren songs of the sea. It wasn’t long before the boat began to steer her direction. Lorelei half heartedly joined the song, and the entranced fisherman sailed to the rock that the two mermaids sat upon. By the time the mermaids stopped singing and jumped off the rock, it was too late for the sailors to change direction. The two mermaids were under the water, and of course now that they were underwater Lorelei had to leave her sunglasses on the rock. Through the Voice of the Sea, Lorelei spoke to Pearl despite being underwater, “Pearl! You didn’t have to sink them!”Pearl was too busy laughing. Lorelei glared at her, and she saw one of the sailors fell off into the ocean and was struggling with swimming. She swam with speed and saved the man with ease. She took him to the rock, with a whisper of a song to make them wonder if this was even real. Pearl glanced to Lorelei confused more than anything else, “Why did you save him?”Lorelei shook her hand in disbelief and then turned her fin on Pearl and swam away.
