"You've transformed other humans too and didn't turn them back."
Finally. I hope the next part is Martha alone brooding over this statement.

Now she has something to think about. And soon (three episodes) and she will have to face the results of her magic personally. But before we go there, Sami will have an encounter with his own demons. His personal "Ghost of Christmas past" you might say.

The punishments for the humans are cruel, in a way. But they make sense.

Yup, it's a harsh world. No wonder that Sami doesn't care much about humans.

Still, I would be upset if someone betrayed my trust. And if I didn't know how much my power would affect them, I could destroy their lives.

Ah, you are refering to Lady Amhadina here.
Normally, the jinn keep their settlement hidden from humans. If humans travelling the desert get too close to a jinn settlement, the jinn create fata morganas, sand storms etc. to keep the humans away. If a human finds a jinn settlemet nevertheless, he or she will no longer be allowed to leave the settlement.
Spending the rest of your life as a human in a jinn settlement can be quite boring, unless you befriend with some jinn. But humans normally died after only some 50 years, for a jinn that is not a long time.
Being transformed into a spirit, like the merchant, is comparable to spending the rest of your life as a human among jinn. Only, as a spirit, you are now a relative to the jinn. Even if you don't have jinn powers, you're most likely adopted into jinn society, although you are now at the bottom of this society.
And then, there are also those humans who broke another genie law too. The boy from today's story is an example for this. And next week, we will see more way how Lady Amhadina will deal with human intruders.

Something tells me I wouldn't want to be in their place.

I'm not really too enthusiastic about being punished. I'll just have to wait and see next week.

What do you think about the punishments? Appropriate or not?
