Description In spite of his uncommon strenght and inoxidability, Atom is always delicate, as a machine and as a person. Now he's under a shock, something happened and hit his system. Doctor Ochanomizu had to call Doctor Tenma to count on all the possible help.
It's not easy to heal human psychology... obviously is not easy to heal AIs' one.
Tenma and Ochanomizu put together their forces, and they'll find a way. This happens under Uran's eyes (who was not supposed to be there, but she won't do anything, as she knows it could harm her brother).
She's not meant to be a fighter, but she knows this could happen also to her. She knows with good approximation what's happening to her brother, maybe she can give some good help too.

Oh no! Is he still conscious?

Partially... not a pleasant situation, but doctor Ochanomizu and doctor Tenma will cure him soon.
He's blocked, his body is stuck like this and he can't move. He maybe still sees, but he can't talk or make a sound. But I think he can still communicate a bit through a computer. And Uran can help too, as she can reckognise what hit her brother like this.

Oh no! I hope they'll be able to fix him. He is far too fragile for this!

Yes, he is. He maybe strong, powerful, armed and running on clean nuclear power... but he's always a delicate machine and a child. This scene is meant to hint that he went throw some bad situation, that hit him not only in his "hardware" but also in his mind.
This may be complicate so solve, but if scientists can create a new life form from some chips, circuits and computer programs, they will be able to help Atom, without resetting or erasing anything... or, maybe, anything important, like his memories or his personality.
The fact he is so human, and not only thanks to his shape but above all for his behaviour, makes that tiny robot one of the most precious and delicate creatures on Earth.

The feeling of not being able to control your own body and having to rely on others to fix you must be terrifying!

Veramente vado a periodi.

I can't see Uran's face, but I think that brings out how she feels: we as viewers of the picture cannot see her face, but from her position we can tell what she must feel, seeing her only brother like this. She knows that she might meet the same fate as well, if not careful.

As usual, well done.

She may be not complex and sofisticated as her brother is, but she is always a great AI... and she also thinks about her brother, who has to face lots of battles, all different, and his system is always under an enormous stress, while she has got her mind left almost empty... since doctor Ochanomizu will not decide to send her at school too.

I think she must not be there, it's dangerous. She's always a robot running on nuclear power. Clean, safe and all, but always nuclear. She must have promised to be careful, to help and to watch her brother without making mess or any distractions.
I think she loves her brother in a deep way, but she could not find yet the right words to express that feeliing.

Of course, the main character is poor Atom, who is in shock... what happened to him? I don't know, to tell you the truth. But it's kinda serious, so even Tenma was needed to help Ochanomizu and cure Atom. It's also shocking, as Atom is rigid, he can't move... but maybe he's present and totally aware of thing happenings around him: his two fathers, his sisters... he knows that everybody is helping him, so, even if he's suffering, he knows it will end soon.

It's lucky Atom's got Uran as a sister...and Cobalt as a brother. Not many people draw Cobalt, but I like the idea of Atom having an older, robot brother. That way, he can turn to Cobalt for guidance when he can't rely on Tenma or Ochanomizu.

In my first drawings I made Cobalt too. But, to tell you the truth, in spite of the fact I quite like him, I find him a bit too much, as he was made just to redouble Atom and to be his side-kick. And it meant that Tenma's creation was not so unique or not so difficult to copy. Maybe Cobalt was not as powerful as Atom is, but we don't really know much about him all alone, we know him just in comparison to Atom.
Worse, I am happy there are no more robot parents or robot babies. Maybe Atom still wants a family, more normal as possible, to be more familiar with humans, but he already has got doctor Ochanomizu, who gave him a sister. And he still loves his father. He has already got Shunsuke Ban as uncle (and school teacher in the older version), so he does not need other people to be ordered by... In that sense, maybe an older brother could be another authority to fight against or to follow with the strict way Japanese respect their older brothers (well, maybe it's all formal, but I figure Atom's program: he respects authority if it is not totally wrong, and he could be framed between his sense of justice and his good behaviour).
In the 2003 series American translation, all cut and changed, they give Blue Knight the former name of Cobalt: it was a good idea... if the rest of the work was not a total mess.

Personally, I like to give Cobalt more of a personality when imagining my stories. In the books he doesn't do much, and he doesn't have much of a personality, but I liked the idea of Atom having an older sibling and a younger sibling, so I like imagining Cobalt as more than a mere sidekick: he's not as powerful as Atom or as sassy as Uran, but I imagine him to be the most level-headed and practical of the three. He's the older brother you can turn to when you have problems, and he's extremely loyal, and good at cracking jokes and lightening up the mood when things get too gloomy. Or at least, that's my version of him. Like you, I thought that Atom's robot parents were unnecessary, but I wished Tezuka expanded on Uran and Cobalt more.

I do not see Cobalt as an ''authority figure'' despite the fact that he's older than Atom. He's more of someone who can support his younger siblings. My version of Cobalt is too goofy and fun-loving to be an authority figure; you can see him as the ''clown'' of the trio. I also imagine him as loving to play pretend and dress-up with Uran: he looks like a preteen boy, but he doesn't mind letting his inner child out.

I also loved to draw Cobalt, in some old drawings; there can be a version of the story where he has got a preeminent role, and not just a bad-copy-of-the-hero to laugh on. Maybe he could great in strategies, as he is not as strong and as armed as Atom. I would like to see what Tenma thinks about all those new robot kids around his masterpiece and son.
But, at the end, I think Atom, Cobalt and Uran could be too similar to Disney's Huey, Dewey and Louie.
They need some good stories to work together, a trio action, something like a squad... maybe just for fun, and it becomes serious in emergency situations.
I think that Tezuka did not improve the other robot-kids just for the fact that Atom was born to be alone, he was meant to be the only refined and human-like AI in the world. But it could not be, couldn't it? If Atom was all alone, he must have been a prototype, not perfect, without "ancestors" or any kind of other AI robot to relate to. Just the first one, and the lonely one. It can't be good for a story, it's not so interesting for a kid-show; it could be interesting for a deep psychological and introspective story: we could go deep inside his mind, a totally new field, all to explore...
A kid-show wanted a hero, so a hero wants his world, his enemies and allies, his fights and his tryumphs. A psychological defeat can be great, for me, but not for a kid; a psychological tryumph could leave kids perplexed and bored.
Atom, in his first appearance, was meant to be the only one. But when they gave him too many siblings (maybe they are not, as they haven't been built by Tenma or Ochanomizu, but the reality is that there are many other great AIs in the world around him), there was required a new feature that could make Atom the only one again.
Too many robot kids around him, too many brothers and he as the middle kid... too many things for Atom, whose best feature was to be the most advanced and powerful AI in the world.
Stuck in the middle of it, he could lose his own personality and importance, as it happened with some 1998 comics about Paperinik (known as Duck Avenger or Super Pato).
So, if they will, someday, decide to give Atom an older brother (maybe built before him, as a prototype, so he can really be older and more experienced than him), they will have to be careful and not make them common, boring or just for fun, as the most important and essential features wants Atom to be the only one for something.
I am a bit sad when I see a character turned in a comic relief. I watched some DragonBall Z OAV's and they really maltreated Krilin, the nose-less boy: he's a great fighter, a martial art super-master and a loyal friend to both Goku and his son Gohan... and instead they made him the fun corner of the show. Too bad. If they made something like this with Cobalt, I'd prefer to erase him before it happens.

Which is why whenever I imagine stories with Cobalt in them, I portray him as a bit different than in the original books. He's not just there for comic relief; he acts like a person with his own thoughts and feelings, and he's different from Atom in personality, but they're quite close.

There would be a deep work on their personality, not not make all the siblings easy to swap.

I'd like him as an older brother, literally, for an example. And a little less smart than Atom, but with a great heart and brilliant ideas, different from Atom's or Uran's. A different way to do things, as even close brothers and sisters do, in human families.

I don't like how they made in the old cartoon: in the few episodes I saw, he was there but he could be absent and nothing happened.
He should have a life of his own; as I said about Uran, who should go to school as well, Cobat should attend school too, but in a different class, with different teacher and people. It would be great if the brothers would tell each other what they've been learning.

The story would really change a lot, but it could be a great new project, more promising, if you ask me, than the Reboot we are still waiting to give a look at.

Atom is just as delicate as my PC JARVIS on the inside.....I'm sure the doctors can fix him up......My dear JARVIS needs a new CPU (brain), his stopped operating. JARVIS is wrapped gently in a blanket until he can be repaired.

Yep. I think Atom will enjoy a warm hug and a soft blanket too, when he will regain his body movements.
His family is trying its best to help him, and he knows they will make it.

They are the best scientists of their time, they can fix him! I wish they could come help me with JARVIS.....But I'm sure I'm smart enough to do the job, I DID make JARVIS after all!

I bet Ochanomizu hakase will come to give you some help, if you need to. But I can't count on Tenma hakase, to tell you the truth. I know he's great, but I also know his behaviour...

I can agree with that. I would prefer Ochanomizu, as he is gentle, and friendly. JARVIS requires a gentle touch.  I did get JARVIS running again, I'm so happy I have my friend back!
