Wow, this takes me back. Back to when (I'll admit) the fic wasn't nearly as good as it is now. Back to all of the ideas and story bits I tried and did and worked on. So forgive me if I remeninse...

I have probably mentioned this back in the author's notes, but I am a firm believer in the Kirk idea of "I don't like to lose." There is a journal entry out there about what makes a hero and a response I saw is that a true hero will hear "You can only save 100/1000 people." and will respond with "Forget you! I'm going to save everyone." And that is kind of what led to this scene right here.

One of the things that annoyed me about the original and one of the plot points I wanted to touch upon was the idea that Cadence 'had' to kill Fratello and that there was no way to save him. He was pure machine now, he was consumed by hatred and only had 1% of his goodness left, he was darkness now, and yadda yadda. Sadly for that idea...I am the guy who thinks outside of the box and will always find a way to save a life. This all stemmed from the idea that Fratello had no heart. To that I respond with-

"Then why does he still have 1% of his humanity"

If he really had no heart, then he shouldn't care for Cadence, he shouldn't have any humanity left, and he shouldn't be feeling anything. He could be programed to hate Cadence and not care about her, but he shouldn't be activitly hating her of his own free will. So, I decided to let Cadence do what she does best.

Wich is the other reason I did this. While I admit the brony fandom has some of the best fanfics out there, with some that have yet to be beat by some of the other fandoms, I will admit there is a certain princess who gets the short end of the stick in terms of awesome...Cadence. There are hundreds of Celestia being awesome stories out there, thousands more for the diarch of the night, and Twilight is a dime a dozen. Cadence? I think I can think of one story where she does anything remotely badass (She was too late to be a part of Immortal Game) and beyond that, nothing. She has no sword, no shield, no moments where she throws planets, or anything else. So, I decided to give her a moment of pure awesome.  And as a way to shoot the original fic in the foot, she's pregnant while doing it. No ninja, no sword, no weapons, no training, just her being an emboidement of love saving her brother. 

This art does a scene that isn't in the fic perfectly. I purposely left out the tender moment to make the audience wonder what happened and what happened to Fratello to build up suspense. However, if I were to have had the moment in...this would be it as it perfectly encaspsulates the scene and everything I wanted to say about it. A princess who was basically shunned and insulted and tortured trhough the history of the story, pulling off the impossible. A returned brother, who was called a lost cause. A husband who is no releived that he didn't lose everything. 

The armor looks perfect, on all sides. You have a real talent with armor and bringing out emotions of the story. And I love the tears here. 

"Heh, Fratello," Cadence said with a warm smile, looking into the eyes of her brother, "How do you love my answer to the 'no win scenario?'

"It was perfect, Cadey," he said, giving her a long overdue hug. 

Fall of Starfleet: If I am not busy making you cheer for something awesome, I am making you cry tears of manly pride over heartwarming moments of love and siblinghood.

Nice artwork, you gave it life with your knowledge of history. Finally Cadence gets some limelight
