it just makes me wonder why people are interested in old scrap material like that when I make much better stuff today.

ah yeah. it's because this older version is harder to paint, your new one it's easy, just use normal colors and put all layers in multiply, pretty simple
that wouldn't be much of a practice, got my point?

Try do that.. the result will be bad looking.
Wrong tones, crappy highlights etc. (since multiply only darkens the layer upon the lineart).

But easy coloring, is somewhat like that.
