MAIN EVENT: REACHING THE OUTPOST
Depict how your team reacts to and/or survives the avalanche! Did they run from the sliding mantle of snow, or brace for impact?
There is a lot of context leading to this:
Episode One SummaryThey were quite a long way from camp, but camp wasn't exactly home so it wasn't all too concerning. Handler and dire plodded along over the snow coated rocks. It was slippery in places--nothing Opal couldn't handle. Little scratch marks dotted the trails. So many Tokotas roaming this strange place, though the higher they climbed, the more alone they became.
The dawning sun was peach against the pastel blues. As they climbed a low incline, they soon tilted down the other side,Yuka brushing her hand cheerfully against the rock wall. They'd climbed so high. The camp looked like a kingdom of ants. Most of the campers were still preparing for the journey forth, but their eagerness and light packs had led them to travel up for a sneak peak before they left.
The rock faces were rough, cold too. She felt it even through the cloth of her mittens. They brushed something new though, that gave her pause.
Claw marks.
Yuka stared in hushed wonder at the depth they carved into the rock. That Mitchell

Was going to collaborate this, but the clinging doubt that this will work well for a episode 1 prompt made me finish it. I don't want to pull anyone ihto a position of losing points that way.
Gotta love that challenge of coloring Percy. He's a beautiful character--and OF COURSE I chose to draw him on the side where I'd need to guess at 80% of his markings. HHH. But he turned out good.
And of course also featuring sealle 's Rusty 23440 - I've always wanted to draw this big warm colored beauty.
There's something really different about drawing all these piece featuring Opal in such desperate situations.
Unhurt, but bruised and shaken--mostly on the mental side.
It was Mitchell's idea to use the strap-down ties from their equipment down in camp. Yuka was lowered down into the crevice with careful hands. The reunion of the pair down in that hole was no doubt touching, but short lived. They had precious little time before darkness and the cold set in. Opal was shaking badly--hopefully from the jitters of being found. But no one was willing to risk her coming down with pneumonia or something tragic. The rescue team could hear soft whimpers down in the dark. Rusty, the big red barbary dire, sat in the tangerine rays of the sun equipped with a harness. His broad stature and stubborn nature were perfect for this effort. A tug on the lines meant "go", and Rusty leaned into those tresses with a huff.
"Hang in there, you two!" Mitchell's voice carried down, though Yuka could hardly hear it. Her face buried deep into Opal's ruff, she wept softly. She had done this. All those hours between the avalanche and now she had been blaming the expedition--namely Mitchell. Yet here he was in that desperate moment. He and that noisy little motley Toki had all but organized this entire effort. She had been hard on them, even before now.
The hardest part was listening to Opal's cries. She was hysterical. It hurt Yuka to hear these notes; it was something Opal had never done before, nor had she ever expected her to have to. But she was alive. She was alive.
The bright evening rays lit up the brown dire's frosted mane, warming the side of Yuka's face. She didn't lift her head immediately. But when she did, she slid down and with numb limbs assisted in the removal of the lines. There were some places where the fur had rubbed off, but the pair would take that gladly. The young girl then set to feeling over Opal for any further injuries. The snow, despite being the cause of this situation, had also saved Opal's life. Cushioning her fall, unlike the rocks beneath.
Averting her attention to her helpers, Yuka felt her face twist but then warm to a smile. What an embarrassing moment. She was not given to outward bursts of emotion. Thanking them all, she felt a hand grip her shoulder, and she looked at Mitchell with a thousand words in her eyes. They were alive, and this man had made it possible. She would remember this. They both would.

The movement and colours are stunning! I love the weight and how well you drew that. It really does look like they are pulling a big tokota out of the ground!

Possibly! Though I can also see myself forgetting to go back to it. I do that a lot. ;o;
