Draw this again - Jensen AcklesMy second entry to the contest:yay:
I fell in love with the reference photo when I saw cataclysm-x's version of it. She did such a wonderful job and I thought I had to do this too.
So I started drawing the before image in 2011 but right after I finished and scanned it I was really unhappy with the outcome, everything was so blurry and there were no real highlights and shadows.
After some time in a folder I decided to frame and hang it to the wall above my workspace.
Just then I realized how I upset was with the result and so I reworked the old drawing.
And I really like what came out of it. The image is much sharper and the light and dark parts are better leveled now.
This is an even smaller improvement than my first entry. Only when taking a close look at the two drawing you can spot the differences. But I feel much better now when I take a look at my wall and see the new image.

Technical stuff:
- paper: Bristol paper 300g/mΒ²
- Faber Castell 9000 pencils (HB for the sketch, 2B-8B for the shading)
- reference used
- Photoshop to correct the levels

Ha, I wonder if I'm the only one who did that. Anyway the amount of detail (I see the fibers on the shirt!!) is amazing and I hope to one day get that your level when I draw humans.

i find that the second one is much more detailed and the features have been handled more delicately. i think the skin and the features on the face look much better, it's a great improvement. however, i think the darker shades on the older one offer more contrast and makes the face stand out more so next to each other the second one looks a bit flat.

The bigger amount of contrast in the first one may result from balancing the levels in photoshop.

I definitely prefer the second, in that one you have managed to capture every 'imperfection' on the face which in my opinion gives it a life-like quality which the first one despite it being very realistic seems to lack in comparison. Although I think they both are incredible and display an impressive level of skill which I wouldn't be able to muster

I looked at the two again. I think my reason of choice is that the second looks more etchy. Or pencil drawn. It just doesn't look as realistic to me. But that's just my opinion. Both are great though!
