Ahh
I'm feeling really good at the moment, which is rare! I'm so happy with this. <3
Though I do notice that I have a lot to learn in terms of comic design... This is quite stiff and the events aren't quite clear. I don't think I got the vibe I wanted across either. But still, I did 4 pieces of shaded painterly backgrounds! =>c That's quite huge for me. I love the last panel, even if it doesn't quite fit. ^v^

Basil's masterlist

Soulsong, Temple of Silence: A held memory

As Basil had descended down the stairs, he had entered a long corridor. It winded away with only small patches of light that glowed from some wall carvings. At times Basil could swear they even moved.
It felt like a small eternity, but eventually the corridor that Basil had followed came to an end.
He looked around. A cavern filled with water opened in front of him, dimly lit but much brighter than the previous path he had taken. The temple walls were adorned with symbols. Tales of a time that came before, one that Basil did not know of, nor understood. Or perhaps they were just a simple set of instructions. Basil wouldn't know. Regardless he knew they weren't the answer to his dilemma. He glanced back at the water and hesitantly inched himself over the edge and placed his paw into the water. Onto? His paw didn't break the surface and instead a gentle buoyancy supported him from below.
It was enough for Basil to get the courage to go forward. That's when the light caught his eye.
In that moment he forgot his suspicion of the room and approached the light coming from the water below the center of the room. He stopped right over it. It loomed below the surface. Basil stayed there. Staring at it.
And slowly he started to realize that the only way out was down. The light called to him. He knew that it marked the way he was meant to go.

As soon as this thought actualized in his head, he felt a sudden shift. Instead of a controlled dive into the water, Basil plunged into the depths as the supporting water below him scattered. All that was below was the cold, icy and dark water that seemed to have nothing magical about it.
A familiar panic and fear clouded his mind. For a moment he looked around in shock as the shadows cast by a ball of light began to form. They made images that Basil remembered oh so painfully well. He looked at the hands of the humans that held him. He could swear he felt their touch on his skin. Suddenly all that the cold water made Basil think of was the cold walls of his old terrarium. The cold glass warped over him, leaving him no room for movement. He squeezed his eyes shut, but the memories kept swirling inside him without the need for sight.

It was suffocating. For a while Basil let the currents throw him around, both inside his head and in the depths of this room. Steadily the feeling of suffocating kept growing inside him. He had to let go.
In that moment he made a subconscious decision. The memories pressed back. He pressed them back into his very being. Into the depths of his soul. And like that, his sinking stopped.
As he realized this, he opened his eyes. He saw light again.
Following the bubbles rising, he treaded the water. Finally his snout broke the water's surface and the weight of the abstract feeling of suffocation lifted from him. He dragged himself above the surface and ashore.
And though he didn't feel the fear or the pain of his past anymore, what was left in that empty space was the anger of having to let go. The anger of never having gotten his justice. The anger of... what was it again?
No... It must have been nothing.
Unjustified anger. That's all that was left.
