Description
my contest entry!! (CROSSES FINGERS)
- Rhys Softwalker is a young woolyne in his early twenties. he's a lvl 1 Forger following the Sol path.
- Rhys has a stubborn personality, a very determined happy-go-lucky type. He's increasingly positive even in the worst of situations-- which is why he picked the Sol path. Through forging, Rhys wants to be helpful no matter the situation because there's always a way out.
- His family is nomadic/traders, traveling wherever they feel and trading handmade goods for food and supplies. He's the only boy born to his family, one sister older to him and two younger.
- Once Rhys came of age, he decided he'd rather settle down and take on training.
- Despite his family's natural artisan leanings, Rhys cannot craft. No woven baskets, delicate figures, or intricate clothing. However, he can weave small bracelets, which he uses to supplement his temporary work. His mother wove his clothing for him, the leather tanned and dyed by his father.
- Rhys settled in Seawynne, doing a part-time business of fortune telling when he isn't training, selling 'fortune' bracelets and doing tellings for tourists
- Once his initial training is finished, Rhys wants to see more cities since his family would stop in smaller townships to trade. Seawynne is lovely but it's only a piece of the world, after all!

“You sound funny, mister.”
Rhys peers at the green eyes staring at him, the tightfisted paw tangled in his coattail. She’s small, perhaps no older than five. Her mom is bustling at a stall only a few feet away, inspecting some of the souvenirs. Her tail twitches as Rhys kneels down, smiling at her.
“I sound funny, huh?”
“You do! You do, you don’t sound like anyone here. Well, I guess you sorta do. You sorta don’t too.”
“That’s because I’m not from here,” Rhys whispers, covering his mouth as he says it. The girl’s face lights up like a sparkler, her eyes shimmery for a surprise. She looks like his younger twin sisters, with the way she leans in. “I’m actually from a nomadic family. We’ve been all over the world!”
“Have you really?” The girl asks, and the skepticism in her voice makes Rhys laugh. “Me and momma are from Su-Bahn,” she tags on woefully, “We’re only here to visit uncle.”
“Yeah, we traveled everywhere and made things for people.” Rhys supplies a bracelet from his bag, with plain brown leather straps and a wooden face. The face had been touched up with a golden paint, its sheen catching the sun as he held it out. “Do you want one?”
“How much does it cost?” The petulance and cleverness of the girl leads Rhys to let out a startled laugh. She glowers for a moment, before covetously eyeing the bracelet in his hand.
“They’re free, for good fortune!” Rhys says, handing it out again. She reaches forward, gently prying the bracelet from his fingers.
“Can I have one for momma? And uncle too?” Rhys smiles a little more softly now, fishing two more from his bag. It doesn’t take the girl long to take these, a smile rejoining her face as she looks at the three of them. “Why are you here, mister?”
“I’m here to be a forger,” Rhys starts, watching her head cock to listen to him while she shimmies the bracelets in the light. “It’s hard to learn when you’re always moving. No teachers on the roads, you know.” He pauses, thinking. “It’s hard. I miss them. I wouldn’t give this up for anything, though.” Rhys shakes his head; it’s goofy to confide in such a young tourist. However, the girl nods a little bit, even though she doesn’t look up.
“You’ll see them again, right?” The girl finally looks up, bringing her filled hands to rest next to her heart. Her mother had turned around, looking frantic for a second before she saw her daughter so close by. It made Rhys think of his mother—wonder if she still has days that she calls for his help or turns to look for him. In a way, it made his heart happy.
“Absolutely.”
