Ok, so I had a complete artistic block today when trying to do page one of issue 3 of The Ship of Queens. Everything I churned out was a pile of shit. And it really upset me, and made me think I was a crap artist.

Yeah. I'm so emo.

So I decided to combat this by doing some productive sketching. Since my aPAULing series is going to get MUCH bigger in the long run, I thought it would be a good idea to do some research on all different kinds of male characters. And who does them best? That's right, Disney.

So I pulled out a couple of my DVDs, grabbed some screenshots (LOADS of reference used here boys and girls) and set about reproducing them. Yup, some of them are better than others but I think they all came out ok.

Here's a list of who they are in case you don't know:

Back row, left to right:
Prince Philip (Sleeping Beauty), Arthur (Sword in the Stone), Jim Hawkins (Treasure Planet) and Hercules (Hercules, duh!)
Third row, left to right:
Flynn (Tangled), Aladdin, (Aladdin, again DUH), Eric (The Little Mermaid)
Second row, left to right:
Quasimodo, (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Prince Edward (Enchanted)
Front row, left to right:
Tarzan (Tarzan, DUHBRAIN), Shang (Mulan) and finally the adorable Taran (The Black Cauldron).

So this has given me lots of ideas for future character designs, and I no longer feel like a failure because at least most of these characters are recognisable.

Give me feedback people, I'm troubled right now! Oh and for once, enabled download for full sized as the sketchy bits are hard to see smaller.
