Name >  Pallas

Nickname(s) > TBA

Tribe > 50% RainWing/ 50% SandWing

Occupation/Affiliation > Student

Mentor/Apprentice (if applicable) >

Talon/Order > Quartz Talon

Appearance > Pallas is a young, spry hybrid dragonet with purple eyes. In body type, they certainly look more like a RainWing. He happens to have some very long legs, and a semi-prehensile tail. However, many of their scales resemble a Sandwing, as well as the structure of their face. It’s quite clear what type of hybrid he is, since he has traits that are telling for both tribes, such as the SandWing ridge atop their head, and the RainWing ruff behind their ears. They can change the color of their scales with some thought, but usually stay within more muted yellows, oranges, and greens. The most noticeable thing about their coloring is the jaguar-like spots and rosettes dotting their scales.

Scars > Much to their dismay, Pallas hasn’t had any scarring on their scales. Someday they hope to have a glorious battle scar, even if it will probably hurt.

POSITIVE:

Social:

Pallas enjoys conversing and getting around with fellow dragons. He is certainly not a wallflower, and will push himself into a conversation without a second thought. (Whether or not they’re welcome to that conversation, well…) The hybrid is very aware that you can learn information by staying silent and hiding but, eh, it’s not his style. It’s much more exciting to talk straight with the source, and potentially bother someone.

Creative:

It probably stems from their RainWing side, not to say SandWings cannot be creative, but Pallas has a world of imagination. He specifically has ideas and dreams about botany- there’s something satisfying about arranging different plants together to make colors match or their surroundings pop. Being boring is so out, in their opinion. Why not go crazy and decorate your surroundings to the top?

Empathetic:

Feelings can be big sometimes, and usually hard to understand. So if pushing their feelings to the side and focusing on others is an option, he usually does it. Especially when dragons are sad or upset, he’ll go out of his way to try and remedy it, because now they feel upset too.

You can’t bring a dead dragon back, but you can bake warm cookies for your sobbing friend.

NEUTRAL:

Loose-Lipped:

Pallas can certainly keep very important secrets under tight wraps, but they do love to talk about anything else. Most of this behavior is ignorant, because of the way they grew up. It was normal in the village they lived in, to whisper about weird dragons under their breath. It can be exciting, even, to talk behind someone’s back and spread a little gossip.

Impulsive:

Pallas doesn’t enjoy thinking about decisions. You just gotta do them, and sometimes that includes the thought of ‘what if I lace my friends drink with berries that will make their tongue turn blue?’. Thinking takes up valuable time, and time is by far the most valuable resource. He can probably get through life with as little of that as possible, right?

NEGATIVE:

Greedy:

You really can never have enough of something. At least that’s Pallas’ opinion. He’s always going to stretch his talons out for just one more, please. They certainly won’t ever share food. Deep down, they know it’s more available where they’re living currently, but back home…you better hang on to that meal, or you might lose it. Back home, greed helped you survive.

Cynical:

Growing up in a small SandWing village with a high crime rate, Pallas has never seen much good in the world. He always expects the worst outcomes, and is surprised that he’s even alive and healthy at his age. They honestly had expected to die before they reached five, but here they are.

Maybe it will be better, but Pallas cannot trust that. All dragons have ulterior motives, and all dragons have a chance to eventually murder you one day.

Vengeful:

Pallas doesn’t take kindly to those who have wronged him, or more importantly, his mothers. Eventually, this may stretch out to friends, in the event that he makes one. Anyone should pay their karma, for any crimes they have committed to them or their friends.

Pallas isn’t the murdering type. Not yet, at least, and they aren’t skilled enough in combat to avenge anyone that way. However, they do have a long list of plants that cause stomach upset. You have been warned.

LIKES >>

Poison:

An odd thing for a dragon to find enjoyable, but any new knowledge on types of poisons and how lethal they are really gets Pallas excited.

Tropical Plants:

Pallas has never been to the rainforest, but imported plants from there are his favorite. The more colorful, the better. Of course, the deserts cactus and succulents are always appreciated as well.

Wild Cats:

Pallas has read about wild cats such as Clouded Leopards and Jaguars, and would love to visit the rainforest one day to study them. They may have gotten inspiration from their spots, which is the reason they have made their scales look spotty.

Music:

A good tune never hurt anybody, and Pallas would certainly rather have music playing all the time. They personally can’t sing or play any instruments, but they enjoy listening.

Scavenger and Strongholds:

Pallas was first introduced to this game in a dusty old shop that was falling apart around the edges. He was only 4 at the time, but he had been pestering some older SandWings long enough for them to cave in and teach them. They have been gifted a set of dice by Lotas and played every other week back at the SandWing village. They hope to continue playing on Isle Mezzo, but the move has been too busy for them to reach out and plan yet.

DISLIKES >>

Hybrid hate:

This one is obvious, but Pallas hates anyone who thinks the dragon tribes should stay pure.

Black and white colors:

Arguably the most boring of all the colors. Please. Don’t be afraid to be colorful!

Asparagus:

This is the worst vegetable ever, and Pallas will never eat one. If you even try to sneak it into his food, there will be consequences.

SECRETS:

Tail Barb:

Pallas was born without the iconic SandWing tail barb but has always felt as if it should have been there. It feels silly, why is he so self-conscious about something he's never had? Who would even understand, when they never had a tail barb in the first place. He’s been on the lookout for something heavy to wear on the end of his tail, like jewelry, but can also be used as a weapon. Pallas would never speak to anyone about this, because it is impossible to change. Regardless, they would change it in an instant if they could.

FEARS:

Claustrophobic:

Pallas is afraid of tight spaces. Caves are usually fine, but they have trouble breathing if it gets too crowded.

Being Assasinated:

Now that they know that a random dragon can apparently set out a hit to kill anyone, for any reason, they certainly fear that one will come for him. Or worse, his mothers. He might not show it much, but he loves them very much.

WISHES/DREAMS:

Hybrid:

Pallas is barely a SandWing. Sure, they do have certain physical traits that resemble them, but no tribe abilities. Sometimes they wish they had been born full SandWing.

The Rainforest:

Pallas longs to visit the rainforest, to enjoy the views and the plants. The place does bring back bad memories, and he does fear that an assassin from long ago may show up to finish the job. He certainly would be less afraid if he had a big, strong dragon to protect him.

\\  H I S T O R Y  //

Baby Dragonet >

Pallas wasn’t lucky enough to have a soft beginning. Most dragonets would spend their hatching cuddled up with their parents, if they were fortunate enough. A hatching wasn’t supposed to be stressful.

His was.

He’d been born in the Rainforest when his mother was on the run. No happy tears, no hugs, just a newly hatched dragonet bundled up into a poncho. Their first memory was a cold wind rushing in their face, and his mother’s pounding heartbeat.

He remembered a tropical forest fading into green plains. The change of scenery didn’t register much for him, but he did remember how much his mother always looked behind her. Almost like someone had been following them.

It was at the young age of three months that Pallas began asking questions. In fact, the first question they asked was conveniently, "Mum? I think there's someone following us. Is there someone following us?" Which quickly led to his mother shushing him for being too loud. Suddenly, he understood. If he was too loud, they would surely be found.

"By what?" Was their next question, in an intense whisper. Even at this young age, the information that Serval did tell him didn't seem like the entire truth. He'd decided right then and there, once they were safe (Would they ever be safe, they pondered?) he would ask for all the details and not take no for an
answer.

He learned that day that something dangerous was following his mother and him, and if they were found...good things wouldn't happen.

So, Pallas began learning how to always watch his back.

Once the questions started, they never stopped. Pallas had a great need to understand everything around him, even if the timing was awful. He asked about how his mother hunted and wanted to get involved in helping cook meals. He remembered her patiently teaching him how to open up a coconut, because his first attempt was laughable. (He had hurled it at a wall, causing it to bounce off the wall and smack him. He was fine. The coconut, however, was very mean.)

Out of all the questions he asked, the ones about plants were the most. Serval, for the most part, was unhelpful with that. As months passed by, he began experimenting with plants with the little time they had on the run. One of his first discoveries was that moss helped stop bleeding. (Serval had a small cut,
and Pallas was panicking, and the first thing they could think of to help was their beloved plants.)

Pallas could usually tell by looking at plants if they preferred to be out in the sun or if they loved the shade. This happened to be the one thing that Pallas knew more about than his mother.

Eventually, as the grass plains turned yellow and dry. Pallas has known what humid heat was like, in the first months of their life, but the memory was quickly fading. This however…they liked this heat. He was quick to inform his mother of the fact, to which she replied that he would enjoy the desert much more.

“Why? Wha’s the desert got that this don’t have?” Pallas pondered as the two of them wandered closer to the kingdom of sandy dunes.

“Your mother, for one thing.” Serval had chuckled lightly, watching as her child bounced by her side in excitement. After months of high stress and chaos, he was finally getting to just be a dragonet.

“You’re right here!” He had exclaimed, ever so confused. “You’re not in the desert! That’s silly. You can’t be in two places at once.” Immediately, they furrowed their brow. “Can you?”

This was how Pallas found out they had another mother, who had sired their egg. Her name was Lotus, which opened another floodgate of questions to fall out of their mouth. This was how Pallas found out that some dragons were born male but transitioned to female later on in life. Lotus was one of these dragons, which was why two female dragons were able to have an egg together without using the Animus touched Egg of Eggs.  They were traveling to the Sand Kingdom to go live there. (“But why?” He had asked. “Because it’s safe with her.” Serval gently reminded him.)

By the time Pallas had turned one year old, they had arrived in a small SandWing village, and he was finally able to meet his other mother.

Dragonet >

TRIGGER WARNING: Animal Death, Animal Experimention, Kidnapping

Once Pallas and Serval had settled down in their new home, Pallas was quick to demand all the details. They'd been mostly kept in the dark their whole life, and they needed to know why they had run and if they were even safe now. Fortunately, his mothers decided he was old enough to know.

An assassin had been chasing Serval and Pallas since before they had even hatched. They’d mysteriously stopped their chase by the time Pallas had reached a year old, and this was how Pallas learned that the world was cruel.

Pallas never found out about these details, but the assassin was hired by a dragon named Symphony. She was a NightWing and RainWing hybrid who had many riches, and perhaps even more paranoia. After a dragon named Illusion killed Symphony, the assassin backed out of his mission.

-Pallas picks up reading and writing quickly, after his parents initially teach him.

-His love for plants never leaves him, and he learns how to recognize plants by their scientific name and understands most of their uses.

-Pallas discovers an animal eating a plant that turns out to be poisonous. Of course, that animal ends up getting sick and dying. Which unlocks a bit...morbid curiosity in Pallas, so he takes the plant back home and buries his head into books about plants.

This is how he discovers that many plants (and other things) have deadly consequences when eaten. Obviously he's seen what they can do to animals, so he starts to wonder what toxic and poisonous things can do to dragons.

-Discovers a book about brewing potions, and brews his first potion in a large pot in his mothers kitchen. (They're upset at first, because that is nasty smelling soup, but Pallas has to explain it's not soup at all.)

-What leave other dragons scratching their heads, Pallas is able to understand easily in potion making. It helps that he can glance at the page for a couple seconds and memorize the recipe.

-Pallas begins testing his potions on a few of the local animals. How else was he supposed to know if his brews worked or not? It was never anything life threatening, usually potions that caused dizziness or weakness. This, he hid from his mothers. No doubt they would stop him, and testing some of his weaker potions made him understand better what was missing. It wasn't something he enjoyed doing, but eventually he grew numb to the guilt. He even slips some poison in the drink of a dragon who had treated his mothers horribly the other day. Of course, once the desired affect was known, he made sure to slip a cure into their drink.

-His mother, Lotus, knew that the Sand Kingdom could be cruel. She began teaching him how to fight, and while he didn't succeed at that as quickly as potion brewing and botany, he was quick on his feet and learned how to anticipate attacks. She teaches him how to steal and how to pickpocket. Because of Lotas, Pallas begins thinking about how he can be one step ahead of everyone else.

-Pallas overhears his mothers talking about how money is scarce, and they aren't sure if they're going to have enough coins to feed everyone. So Pallas starts selling the potions and cures he makes, hoping to make enough to help his mothers with the cost of living. This is how his potions become more popular, and he can't deny that he loves the attention.

-While he gains enough money to help his mothers, his high-quality potions get him noticed in another way. One he hadn't thought of. It starts with notes, left on his potion selling stand. Several gangs wanted to recruit him, and Pallas felt something unsettling settle in his stomach.

-Pallas ignores the letters, not wanting to get involved in any gangs. Perhaps if he was an orphan, with nowhere to go...but no. He wouldn't put his mothers at risk with something like that. Because of the pressure, he stops selling potions to the public and starts selling plants and herbs instead. It made less money, but he feels less pressure from various gangs.

- Puts together a homeschool project, which displays various deadly plants and cautions dragons to keep their pets away from these plants. Has detailed notes providing the symptoms, any cures available, and also some look alike plants that are not poisonous at all. This, as well as his high-quality potions, gets him noticed by an alliance member, who sends him a recommendation letter to the university.

-During this time, a gang was lying low, waiting to strike. Pallas hadn't been aware, but one night while he was traveling back home, someone was following him.

-Because Pallas continuously denied and ignored invitations to join the gang, they blackmail him and kidnap one of his mothers, Serval. Pallas can have his mother back, but only if he works for them and brews them potions. This was the first time Pallas has ever felt true rage.

-While Pallas and Lotas were figuring out a way to rescue Serval, the Alliance was informed, and Serval was rescued by them.

-Pallas' initial reason to move to Isle Mezzo was because he could expand his knowledge and meet other tribes. Now, his primary focus is getting his family to a safe place. If his mothers and him live there, he won't have to worrying about joining a gang and putting his mothers at risk. He can just relax and enjoy his hobbies like a normal dragon.

-Pallas and his family move to Isle Mezzo, and Pallas can finally feel himself get excited again. Now that he isn't worried about kidnappings, he anxiously awaits to hear if he will be accepted into the University.

-Pallas is accepted into the University, and is part of the Quartz Talon.

PARENTS >

     >> Serval - RainWing - Alive

Serval is a soft-spoken RainWing. She's usually colored in soft strawberry red's and pink. She's actually Pallas' favorite, though they try not to show too much favoritism. Sometimes they wonder why someone would hire an hit on such a sweet and "wouldn't-hurt-a-fly!" dragon. Pallas truly believes that Serval can do no wrong. She's always been there for them, no matter how dire the situation, and Pallas wonders how you can even begin to repay a dragon like that.

     >> Lotas - SandWing - Alive

Lotas has always been a little rough around the edges, despite her name. She's actually the reason Pallas discovered a broader scape on gender identity. No doubt, without her, Pallas would have struggled a lot longer without it. Lotas is also transgender and can make them feel appreciated in ways his other mother cannot understand.

While Lotas is harsher than Serval, she's the reason that Pallas has learned to survive in the desert. Yes, their skills may still be very rusty, but without her...? They wouldn't have any skills at all. Without a doubt, he loves her. Even if he seldom tells her that.
