Description It's Chibi Derpy!

I changed up my pattern a teeny bit from when I made Chibi Fluttershy (mostly the face and the ears). I'm a little bit too pattern obsessed sometimes and I'm always working to edit them and make them better... But I am really happy with this Chibi pattern the way it is now so I think I'll be keeping it this way.

I added an extra challenge to this one because I wanted her to have a super tiny muffin to keep her company. I've only been making ponies so far so I had a lot of fun designing the muffin! Maybe someday I'll have to make a whole tiny muffin army! I used rare earth magnets (Buckyballs) in the muffin and in Derpy's nose so that she can carry her little muffin around (Buckyballs are so awesomely perfect for this! They're really strong so she can hold onto it quite well but since they're round and tiny they're totally unobtrusive, you really can't tell they are there).

Chibi Derpy is sold and on her way to her new home Austria. My plushies have now traveled to more countries than I have!

The technical side of it is the same as on my other plushies: She is handmade by me from my pattern that I designed. Derpy and her muffin are made from high quality minky fabric and stuffed firmly with non-allergenic polyester Silky Soft ultra plush fiber. Her eyes and cutie mark are machine embroidered with Sulky 30 wt. Heavy Rayon Decorative thread. Her smile is hand embroidered. She contains no wire, isn't weighted and stands just fine on her own. She is about 7 inches tall from foot to eartip and 5 inches long from nose to rump.

Why is this shipping soooo much? 55 USD only for shipping ((

Unfortunately international shipping is really expensive and complicated. Everything I've read and researched online says that USPS is generally the cheapest method for international shipping. Last time I mailed something internationally I made the mistake of using UPS Ground and I didn't consider customs duties and their brokerage fee is outrageously high. USPS supposedly doesn't have high brokerage fees (or free brokerage to some countries) so it ends up being a lot cheaper. A medium sized USPS flat rate box (she is too wide for the small sized box) to international locations outside of Canada/Mexico should be $47.95 according to their website and then there's insurance and return receipt fees. I don't make a profit at all on shipping, in fact everything I've mailed so far I've actually ended up undercharging what it cost me to ship. I wish it was cheaper too!

yeah, intl shipping is expensive. Hmm.. reducing shipping costs -- you'd like to come over here for a stay? Free comfy bed, breakfast, lunch and evening entertainment and as long as you like ^-^ The cocktails are superb!

That sounds like a great idea! Although I suspect that free cocktails might end up being more costly than the shipping fees, hehe!

I use minky fabric for my plushies. I'm still fairly new to sewing myself, but I think the best advice I can give is to practice until you get comfortable with whatever you're trying to make. Never let yourself be discouraged, with all forms of art you can only get better the more you do it! I bought a ton of scrap/supercheap fabric at my local craft store and I'm always testing out my new patterns or techniques with that fabric before I move on to nicer fabric so I don't feel bad if I mess up.

He's not too bad for a first try! I noticed you can see the threads on the body - on your next plushie turn him inside out after you sew him so all that stuff goes inside and I think you'll be happier with the result. There are some great online tutorials for plushie sewing that show you how to do this.

Oh my god its so cute. How much would something like this be as a commission?

HollyIvyDesigns In reply to HiMyNameIsNickel [2012-08-02 19:03:42 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I'm not entirely sure how much they'll be yet. It's really hard to set a price on something that is fair for the material cost and time spent (I'm still a slow sewer so they take me a really long time) that doesn't scare people away. eBay has been really great in that way since it's more open ended and people can decide what they think it's worth.

I haven't decided on a set price yet, the few I've made so far have all found new homes through eBay.
