Description I am super angry. Not long ago I bought two of these sized Megamind toy sets (the Megamind and Brainbots set for me and the baby Megamind, baby Metro, and pod for my little bother for his upcoming birthday) off amazon, for the combined price of $27.46, because I couldn't find any Megamind toys in any store I looked in. YESTERDAY I went to Toys R Us (the SAME Toys R Us I'd looked in before, mind you) and found every single Megamind toy on the shelf, with every single set of this size for $3.99.

Do you know what this MEANS?? It means I paid NINETEEN AND A HALF DOLLARS MORE THAN I HAD TO FOR THOSE FIRST TWO FREAKN' SETS!!!

*growls*

... but, anyway...

Since they were on the shelf for so cheap I decided to take advantage and buy the rest of the sets (the Minion/Tighten and Roxanne/Metro Man).

I didn't like any of the paint jobs for Roxanne at all (... yes, I studied the quality levels of each one. You'd be surprised at how different the "same" toys can be in quality level) I picked the one that looked the least demented... although I don't know why I bothered because I'd already decide that no matter which one I got I was going to re-paint it. (Minion was the important one to get the best one on the shelf, because I can't repaint him... unless I cut off his tank, which I don't think I want to attempt doing...)

About the picture...
I worked very hard to take the pictures so that the figure looks like it does (or did) in-person. In the end I had to put in another picture so that you can see there is indeed color in her face.
Oh, and as to size, she's exactly three inches tall. I forgot to put a coin next to her for size reference

Other than dotting in new irises/pupils for Megamind, none of my other figures really need re-paints. Except the babies. I don't think my little brother is going to care very much about the quality of the paint job on them, though, so I might not bother...
Ok, maybe Tighten's pant job is not the greatest. But I don't care if he has a sloppy paint job. (On a side note... did you know that it's really easy to take of Tighten's head? > )

Thank you!

haha, it was a surprise for me too!

Well... I'd had a habit of painting small things before (things even smaller than Roxanne here) so a large part of it for me (the knowing how much paint to put on my brush and how gently to brush and dab it on) was instinct honed by trial and error.  I might have a few tips that might be helpful tho...
My brushes are nothing special... I got them in the... I think $5 bag of a bunch of them at walmart.  Just make sure the tips are nice and skinny and be careful to keep them clean and not mash them too much.
I have noticed that if you mix in Ceramacoat Varnish in with light-colored paints (like pale flesh tone) it makes them turn out smoother.
If you mess up on an edge here or there, sometimes you can fix it if you quickly clean your brush and use it to wipe off the excess.  Make sure it's not too wet tho.  (if it's a lot you might need to use whatever you use as a disposable napkin when you're painting first)
I think I brushed on a tiny bit of pink pastel chalk on her cheeks for her blush.  Not too much tho... its very subtle.
That's all I can think of at the moment.

You're welcome!! (I just cannot get over how well you did and how great you made her look. )

You've painted things even smaller than Roxanne?! Damn! I've repainted a few barbie-sized dolls and one other figure about an inch or so bigger than Roxanne, but never something as small as this before.

Thank you so much for the tips! I'll try my best to do what I can with her. I have some pretty small paintbrushes that I think will work for this, and I've worked with acrylic many times before, so... we'll see how it goes. If it turns out well I might even post a pic here similar to how you did so you can see how she turns out.

Haha, thanks XD  it's a pity I only have the knowledge/materials to make miniatures that are very fragile...  I'd keep making more if I could make ones that don't break so easilly.

No prob!

I know what you mean about making fragile stuff... I have some clay figures in my gallery (you can find them here if you want: darbylucy.deviantart.com/galle… ) that are very fragile and there have been a few times when I've had to glue them back together because I dropped them or something.

LOL!! I did that too!! Examined the toys to see which were the best molds, paid too much, and then painted the figures, that is. XD

But your Roxanne looks SO much nicer than mine. Gorgeous detail work!

...PFFT, I TOOK OFF TIGHTEN'S HEAD TOO. XD And switched his legs and arms around. Now he makes me laugh every time I look at him.

Lucky I found the ones that I did at Toys R Us before I bought them from amazon! Geez that would have been a lot of money down the drain...

Thanks! I'm glad you like it [^^]

XD I'm considering tying my Hal up and hanging him upside-down somewhere.

Emmalyn In reply to HollyRoseBriar [2011-06-09 05:38:41 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I know what you mean! I bought mine to paint and make into ornaments (bwa ha ha, brainbots on a Christmas tree), and the week after Christmas they were on 90% discount. ;_; Whyyy, Toys 'R Us, whyyy~~

Haha, definitely put Hal somewhere you'll see him occasionally! He's hanging upside down from my pencil box right now, and there's a brainbot hiding on my windowsill. ;D

Maybe I'll tie him to a dart board. *evil laugh*

LOVE the dart board idea! XD Although with my aim, I'd probably end up hitting anywhere but the bulls-eye. o_o; Oh well. *hands him to tiny dogs for chewing*

Hey, the point is you're freaking him out, right? lol

Nice work! I've been planning on repainting my figures for a while (especially my poor Hal. He has the saddest most demented derpy wall eyes)

When I get around to repainting Roxanne, I'll be sure to take a few cues from yours SO so so much nicer looking!

HollyRoseBriar In reply to junosunderland [2011-06-08 01:50:15 +0000 UTC]

The only Megamind toys I've repainted are Roxanne and baby Megamind (I'm not sure if baby Metroman is salvagable even with a re-paint... so I might or might not try re-painting him...) Unless you count my dotting in some new irise/pupils for grown-up Megamind... I'd repaint Minion if I could get to him through his tank thing without breaking the toy, but the others I don't really care what they look like (only got 'em in the first place 'cause they came with the ones I really wanted )

Thanks! [^^]

love the repaint yes they are bad arnt they. if only they had her in the larger size to go with the taller megmind and minion. as for the taking apart the minon he unscrews (the body anyway) trying to redo that as well the tank is glued togther but it can be done. i have one waiting for paint now

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HollyRoseBriar In reply to SpaceAmber [2011-06-08 02:41:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yeah, I wouldn't have bought them if I couln't re-paint them.
That's interesting. I wonder if they're still selling Minion toys at that one store so I can have a backup in case something goes wrong...

God, wtf was up with her eyes? I like your repaint, it actually looks like her~

I always get mad when toys look nothing like the characters

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HollyRoseBriar In reply to pinkyapple [2011-06-08 02:54:43 +0000 UTC]

I have no idea. Looking at the toys almost makes one wonder if "demented" was the look they were GOING for with em...

Thanks! [^^]

Me, too. It also bothers me that if I try to make and sell toys based off of the characters myself, I'd probably end up in serious legal trouble for it. *sigh*

HollyRoseBriar In reply to pinkyapple [2011-06-08 04:42:25 +0000 UTC]

It is! My dad likes to say that the main reason I got into making my own toys was because he couldn't buy them for me, but it's mostly because I don't like the "official" stuff, it means more because it was hand-made, and it's also fun. [^^]
