Description Woah... I've took even too long on this drawing...Β  a month, more or less, but what I could say if not I'm REALLY proud of it? (at least, from my computer... from my phone's it's plain horrible. I hope I'm not the only one who experiences some drastic color changes from each device he has TT.TT) I feel like that my efforts on this image were satisfied, despite I have to figure out better the anatomies of both Hocotatians and Pikmin!

What can I say about this fan art? A lot. Prepare your bodies for a maybe badly written rant! :")

-----

I love Pikmin games: seriously, through these last few weeks I managed to get the first two games and let's say I finished the first one in about a week! It has such an amazing gameplay (seriously, not only it's addictive -despite its flaws-, but sometimes I really passed part of my time thinking about each day's strategy), really good aesthetic and originality for a game that it's about 18 years old, a good blending about heartwarming, melanchonic momentsΒ  to such creepy ones. You really feel Olimar's glides from a general desperation to a warm hope given by his new little friends!
Despite I'm almost not emotional when playing a game, in the first Pikmin I was about to cry at least twice: some of Olimar's notes or even the fact the Pikmin are so willing to help him, sacrificing even theirself for him get me... really sad. Ai no Uta does not help me.
But I love experiencing this kind of sadness... At least I got really happy that at the end Olimar managed to turn back home, more or less. It was such a pity it doesn't have much of a replayability value, because it's fantastic... D:

About the second one, I'm playing it right now: despite it doesn't have the same melancholic atmosphere as the first one, I really say that it's really funny. I love how the first world was expanded, the new characters (despite I'm more of an Olimar fan, I do really like the President and Louie as well, and despite if we don't really know well the latter, if he's an antagonist, it's such an original one!), the new Pikmin types and the general improvement of the controls. I'm really liking also, the Piklopedia and the Tresaure hoard parts: I would spend hours reading what the main characters or the ship have to say about every discovery! Also the mails from the President and the two leaders' relatives are a nice touch! <3

As I said I also started to love Olimar even more: I wonder about how my poor closest friends still talk to me after these few weeks in which I think I literally talked about him or Super Smash Bros in general.
Seriously, I didn't expected to his apparently cute and laid back portrayal in Smash games to be actually a curious, sarcastic and intellectually driven guy, and god, I really like this little twist!
Especially I love how he actually DOES care a lot for both his Hocotate family and Pikmin as well (to be honest, he can be described as everything but a slave driver, and if we can analyze his thoughts and gestures through the cutscenes he appears we can assume it's not his intention to use Pikmin as the base of the welfare of him or of his company. It's just his boss that is actually greedy, and to some extent as to Louie as well), by often mentioning them in his writing and being always curious about the habits of the latter ones.
Pikmin games under this cute and carefree appearance are really sad, and not only for the tiny plants and their countless enemies (that after all attack Pikmin mostly in order to survive), but especially for the hocotatian captain: despite all it's still admirable that even after the risks he took and the relative injustices he received he's still more than willing to not lose hope and to address his hard work to make his wife and his children happy as well to being genuinely interested in the wildlife as well as the nature of the treasures he finds. He's such a strong guy who hasn't lost his sensitivity towards his surroundings. I love how some of his notes are funny, some others are melanchonic: they represents Olimar as a such a complex and human protagonist and I think that Nintendo in general should bring this way more often!
He may be too harsh on Louie or the Ship (especially in Pikmin 3), but at least we know that both of them not always were good colleagues ever, and I can see him trying to get back to his home planet in that game and to get back his most meaningful possession as soon as possible...

Soo... for all of the above reasons, and even more, I was inspired to draw at least one other fanart of the S.S. Dolphin's Captain along his families: I like to think Olimar as a sort of father to the Pikmin as well, since he plugs them from the ground, and saved their whole species from an otherwise doomed destiny. I know this is probably not true but not matter what, this thought still heartwarms me.

---------

Oof, are you still alive even after this wall of text? ;v;
Thank you so much for reading this raved lines, and I'm so so sorry if I do sound as one of those fangirls that see their favorite character as a brand new god--- but I do still recognise it's a character that I known for relatively few time compared to my other favorites, Peach and Rosalina.

I just hope that this one won't be just a temporary obsession and would add a little more variety in my gallery, so if you're Pikmin fan as well as Mario Games, feel free to talk to me about: I will more than happy to discuss about these fantastic games! :"D.

And I'm still deeply sorry with my two best friends who are still forced to read thoughts or see sketches from a game they don't know... I hope you can forgive me TT.TT
