Aziel is a small, well-spoken beetle boy with a cheerful demeanor despite how gloomy he may come across at first. Having been sheltered for so much of his life, he has an insatiable thirst for knowledge, and can often be found in libraries or out exploring with his field journal gathering his own information. He is incredibly curious and can get a little out of hand when excited about something he wants to study, neglecting to pay attention to other tasks when swept up in his own excitement. His desk space is rather disorganized, a mess of books and journals and stacks of bound paper all scattered about with colorful sticky notes containing a messy scrawl of information. Despite is very impressive collection of knowledge, Aziel is extremely modest, seeing no particularly positive qualities in himself and preferring to focus on other people or subjects rather than himself. He sees the world around him as an amazing labyrinth of knowledge, and would rather spend his days exploring it. When focused on a specific task, regardless of the subject, Aziel is hard-working and determined, giving the best effort he possibly can.
Being so often the smallest around and such easy prey has caused Aziel to be rather skittish, quick to run and hide like the small beetle he is. Because of this, he often has troubles becoming close to others, as he is easily intimidated upon meeting. He will do all he can to avoid those who intimidate him, and if caught in a situation in which he is unable to run, he will do all he can to please without bringing himself major discomfort. In the off chance he feels truly threatened, Aziel will become much more impulsive, often acting by lifting the largest, heaviest object around over his head in a show of faux dominance. While it is difficult to gain his trust, he is very quick to warm up to those who happen to acquire it. Aziel is caring to those he is close to, much like a concerned mother or older sibling, and while he does not think much of himself, he thinks the world of his friends and family. He would do anything for the sake of those he cares about, often at the cost of his own happiness, though he acknowledges this is an unhealthy mindset. He has trouble believing that those around him are aware of just how much he cares, and will show particularly tender moments if given time alone. Very faithful to those he places his trust in, and gullible by nature, Aziel may very easily find himself taken advantaged of or fooled by others. As impressionable as he is though, he does not particularly mind doing things for others, and allows himself to be taken advantage of. Being extremely timid, these kinds of situations often leave him flustered.

Born amidst breezy, shady canopy in the deepest depths of the forest, Aziel lived a sheltered childhood in a place where hardly any predators lie, protected by a barrier of thick trees. He was of a species that thrived in the shadows and on competition for the sake of reproduction. Not once for the first forty years of his lifetime did he come across a single predator, but due to his timid nature and small stature, he was bullied by the other males. Rhinoceros beetles are a kind which are heavily competitive, getting into arguments just for the sake of it, roughhousing and fighting just for the fun of it, especially when a lady was the prize to win. Aziel never had a desire to participate in such endeavors, finding it much more enjoyable to lock himself up in the village's small, tattered library, reading and learning about the world outside his village which was so secluded from the rest of the world. He had a thirst for knowledge that could never be quenched by the nearly nonexistent collection of books, containing mostly information about the forest and other knowledge relevant specifically to the village and not much else.
He found particular interest in a book his mother had gifted him at the age of twenty. It spoke of the existence of the Philosopher's Stone, a jewel which was said to have an endless multitude of knowledge. As a child, he dreamed about it, eyes glowing bright with excitement and curiosity as he turned the pages over and over and over again, reading and analyzing the pages as much as he could, as it was all he had. For years he yearned to gain more information on the stone, as what was available in his book was nothing more than a page or two containing information that was nearly as old as his village was. This was the beginning of his determination to gather more knowledge, though he had no clue how to go about it with how sheltered his village was, and sure enough, nobody had thought him able to survive in the outside world.
It was at the age of forty that he had been informed by several more "alpha" males that had bullied him when they were younger of the existence of additional knowledge that could be found not far outside their village. With the implication he could learn something new, he mistook their obvious intentions and allowed himself to be convinced that their words were true, soon finding himself far outside the village. Led into the nest of giant flying creatures that strongly resembled birds, he soon found himself defenseless. His ability to harden his skin did nothing against the relentless breaks of the beasts that ripped at his back. Hunched over and defenseless, he heard a scream that implied excruciating pain, only to realize it was his own as one of the beaks caught hold of one of his wings. It felt as if it had been ripped out completely. It was at this moment that he started to black out from the pain, though his vision stayed focus just long enough to see a robed figure fighting off the monsters.
Upon waking, he found himself in his bed in the village, numb to the pain he thought he would have died from. Looking in the mirror, he noticed that both his wings were still in tact, though a sizable portion of one of the sheer wings was ripped out, looking so fragile it seemed that it would fall apart at the touch. However, rather than looking like a tattered mess, it looked cleaned up and healed over. He learned that he had been saved by a student of Luna Arcana, and that they had been able to repair the very edges of the tears around his wings, though they could not restore it fully and he would be unable to fly. Luna Arcana. The name rang strangely familiar on his tongue. He recognized it to be the same academy mentioned in his book. Upon learning this, he spent the next twenty two years preparing to apply for the academy, his thirst for knowledge even greater after having been so close to someone who could have more information on the Philosopher's Stone.
He is determined to become a student of magic under Vega in order to satiate his curiosity.
