Brightstars fur was wet from the vapour that came up from the waterfall.
She was at the Moonfall to speak to Starclan and she hoped to gets answers on what had been happening and what punishment that Starclan wanted for her deputy Owlspots in regards to her crossclan relationship.

She walked behind the waterfall using a path that weaved under the water. Brightstar had only been there once before and that was when she got her 9 lives. It seemed like a long time ago almost a lifetime.

Once in a small cave that was behind the water Brightstar saw beds of glowing moss. She knew she had to sleep in one of the beds if she were to speak to her ancestors. She felt instantly tired as she laid in one of the nests and her eyes felt heavy. She went to sleep and then saw a large field filled with sparkling stars.

Brightstar had to wait for a cat to decide to speak with her and soon she saw a star sparkling cat race down from a small near by hill. The cat was thin and had long legs so it was obvious that it had Ravineclan descent.

The cat was a tall tom and he was a dark brown tabby with a cream snout and belly. He looked younger here than he did when Brightstar had known him.

"Darksand" Brightstar greeted her old friend as he stopped running and walked over to her.

It had been a cruel twist of fate that she was standing there instead of Darksand. When the previous leader had died Darksand was the deputy and suppose to be leader. he was sick with greencough so he couldn't travel to the Moonfall. he had named the inexperienced Brightstream as his deputy and died in the night. So Brightstar had only one night of being a deputy.

"Brightstar" Darksand said happily and he smiled at Brightstar which made her feel better about her visit.

Darksand said "I know why you have come but please speak."

"I have come to ask why Starclan hadn't notified me about the terrible things that have happened to my clan. I also came to ask you how to punish Owlspots as she broke the warrior code and that punishment sits with you. I am afraid I would be too lenient" Brightstar said.

Darksand didn't look comfortable but he responded.

"As you had heard at the gathering the Dark Forest is causing many problems for us. But the clan cats are not helping with the breaking of the warrior code. We knew about Wolfthroats actions as we knew about Ivystar and Owlspots meeting. As punishment we let Wolfthroat continue his actions without warning because of Owlspots treachery and because it would cause a great distress to the Medicine cat Tigerfeather" he explained.

"But that isn't fair!" Brightstar shouted angrily and she frowned at her old friend.

"Life isn't always fair and if someone breaks the warrior code they must be punished. If you were any sort of leader you would have kept a closer eye on your deputy" Darksand replied.

"I trusted Owlspots with my life. How was I to know that she was doing this?" Brightstar asked and she glared at Darksand.

"Brightstar these are dark times and you must be careful with who you trust" Darksand warned and his eyes seemed to glow.

"So you abandon my clan because of two cats?" Brightstar asked "what about the innocent cats that believe in you and trust you like I do?"

"We will never abandon your clan. Owlspots has already paid the price for her actions as Ivystar has chosen another and she if left with the reminder of what was. Wolfthroat was exposed when the time was right and was exiled for it. Ravineclan had paid for what happened and now you have to be alert. The Dark Forest will do everything it can to make sure that the clans fall. Remember to be careful of who you trust Brightstar" Darksand said and he started to walk away.

"Darksand why did Mumblestar come to see me?" Brightstar asked about her past mate.

"Mumblestar knows how you really felt. It was too painful for him to come" Darksand said without looking at Brightstar.

"But don't think I chose you to be my deputy because you were my sons mate"

Brightstar woke up from her dream and was startled. But now she knew what to do and he had to go back to Ravineclan and deliver the news.

Brightstar climbed up the stone steps of the Highrock and wondered if this would be one of the last times she climbed these steps.

"May all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather by the Highrock" Brightstar called out.

From where she stood she could see the gapping hole where the nursery once was. Now there were too many kits to house in the medicine cat den so they had to temporarily share the apprentice den until a new camp could be found.

Owlspots joined the cats that had gathered and she look tired from looking after her newborns. Jaykit, Brackenkit and Copperkit were all healthy when Brightstar dropped by the visit them and she was happy that Ivystar allowed them to live with their mother in Ravineclan. She wasn't happy that a heavily pregnant Owlspots crossed to border to be with Ivystar but she had to let that slide.

"I have come back from the Moonfall and have spoken to Starclan. Now Owlspots has paid to price for her deception and she will have to work hard not only to earn my trust but the clans loyalty. For the first few moons of her kits lives she will spend with them but when they get older she can return to her duties. Until then I will be handling all the deputy duties as well as my leader ones" Brightstar announced and she wasn't sure how her clan would react.

"That is all" Brightstar said before more could be asked.

She didn't want to let the clan know that they had been punished because of two cats and she didn't want to upset them with fears of the Dark Forest. They knew the trouble that was caused by the Dark Forest from the Gathering and it would just bring up doubt.

Brightstar felt older than she was when she walked into her den. She dropped onto her nest and glanced above her.

"Starclan don't you forsake us again" She whispered angrily before falling asleep.
