“Mom! Do I really need to wear this?”
“You better! I spent a good fortune on that back-to-school wardrobe!”
“But Mom! This was supposed to be Alice’s clothes!”
“Yes, but she’s off with your father in Winnepeg and I didn’t exactly plan on having a son living with me this year. So you better make do.”
Jack’s mom and dad had gotten divorced over the summer and each decided to move back home to settle their affairs. Jack was supposed to go live with his dad while Alice lived with their mom in Boston. But due to packing, the kids flew separately and somehow got their tickets mixed up. Neither of them had noticed they were on the wrong flight until it was too late.
Their parents decided to make the most of it, but since Jack’s old boy clothes were en-route for Winnepeg, he had to make due with his sister’s clothes instead. Thankfully they were the same size.
“Look, it’s just a few weeks, once your father gets some time to unpack and find all your clothes, we can get them shipped over to you and we’ll send these outfits to her.”
“But mom!”
“No buts! Now get yours on that schoolbus!”
Jack didn’t get a chance to remind her that her now ex-husband took forever to unpack anything. Last time they moved, there were still unopenned packages lying in the attic from 2 years prior. He’d never get his old clothes back.
