The year is 1910, it has been 14 years since Madagascar was brutally annexed by France. They exiled the queen and keep successfully repressing every rebellion. Life is harsh for the Malagasy people.
Aia, a girl with exceptional spiritual tie-in picks up a unique disruption from far away, on the other side of the world. Yearning for her country's freedom, she is told by the spirits of her land that if she desires a future for her people, she needs to head to where the disruption occurred and play her part in the major event that is about to go down. So along with her musician husband, Tiona , she makes way for the Salt Islands...

Bio

Born in 1887, her real name is Alma and her maiden name is Bailly. She is the daughter of a French trader and a Malagasy Sakalava princess. The nickname ’Aia’, which means ‘where’, was given to her by her housemaids because she was very fond of playing hide’n’seek - especially the hiding part.

Born two years after the first French-Malagasy war, Aia grows up during a tense period and suffers discrimination from some of her peers. When the second war breaks out in 1895, she is moved to the neighboring island of La Réunion and only comes back five years later, when the Madagascar is annexed and the Sakalava region submits. When 18, she leaves the island again for her studies and comes back in 1908 and gets married to Tiona. After the spiritual disruption is picked up from the Salt Islands, all the Malagasy elders and sages agree she is the one who should be sent there.

Personality

Aia is in good spirits. She is jaunty, positive and rosy. It’s not always easy and it especially wasn’t at first. Tiona is one of the first people to help her and inspire her to stay bright, just before she left for La Réunion. She is very curious and always hungry for new discoveries, experiences and encounters. She hates conflict and has distaste for people who think themselves above others.

Strengths/Weaknesses

Aia is a very smart and cultivated lady. She speaks Malagasy, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese & Italian (ha-ha-ha ) and studied medecine. She also has a keen interest in history.

Her spiritual gifts keep her connected to the nearby spirits at almost all times, they keep her constantly aware of her surroundings and also teach her a lot of things.

Aia has some physical endurance and dexterity but she is still just a human girl, vulnerable to most attacks. Usually confident and optimistic, the weight of the hopes and responsibility placed on her this time secretly scares her and leaves her psyche fragile.
